On behalf of Deutsche Bank, we are looking for a Sybase Engineer for a 6 Month contract based Remotely.

The Role & Responsibilities:

  • We are looking for a Senior Sybase Engineer for the bank's Sybase ASE and Replication Server infrastructure on RHEL.
  • You own the platform that DBAs and application teams consume.
  • You will not work a support rota but will be expected to work on Agile project deliveries.
  • You are the technical escalation point for Sybase issues across the bank, partnering with other infrastructure engineers and application teams, and supporting regulatory and audit obligations for the Sybase estate.
  • Significant experience as a database or platform engineer for Sybase ASE, not only as an operational DBA; you have built or maintained the infrastructure that DBAs use, not just run it.
  • Deep working knowledge of Sybase ASE and Replication Server 16.0 (SP03 and SP04) on RHEL 7 and 8, including installation, configuration, upgrade and performance tuning from an engineering (not DBA) perspective.
  • Ability to read, debug and enhance existing Sybase automation and tooling written in Bash, ksh and Python, focusing on reliability and maintainability rather than greenfield development.
  • Practical understanding of Linux internals, storage, networking and hardware as they affect Sybase behaviour and performance; enough to tune systems for Sybase and work effectively with UNIX, storage, network and virtualisation teams.
  • Supporting the roll out of encryption at rest and in transit for the current Sybase ASE estate.

Key Skills & Experience:

  • 3+ years experience as a technical SME escalation point for a Sybase estate, including involvement in high-severity incidents and cross-stack root cause analysis.
  • Experience designing or evolving internal database platform offerings, such as golden images, standard build pipelines and shared configuration modules for other teams.
  • Experience of the implementation database encryption at rest and in transit in ASE 16.0.
  • Familiarity with Git based workflows and code review for infrastructure automation and configuration, for example, using Bitbucket or similar.
  • Experience contributing to or maintaining database governance, configuration standards, operational run books and responses to internal audit or security reviews.
  • Proven track record of owning platform-level change, including packaging and validating database and OS patches, managing change through controlled environments and documenting changes and risks in structured processes.

Our values define the working environment we strive to create - diverse, supportive and welcoming of different views. We embrace a culture reflecting a variety of perspectives, insights and backgrounds to drive innovation. We build talented and diverse teams to drive business results and encourage our people to develop to their full potential.

Next Steps: This client will only accept workers operating via a PAYE engagement model.
