On behalf of our globally respected client who develop cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet the planet's vital power needs, we are looking for an Accounting Assistant for a 9-month contract based in Derby, hybrid (3 days onsite per week).

The Accounting Assistant will support the delivery of fixed asset accounting, reporting and transactional finance activities within the Asset and Cash Management team. The role is responsible for maintaining the fixed asset register, processing asset-related transactions, supporting month-end and year-end reporting, and providing financial operational support to global business stakeholders.

This position offers an excellent opportunity for a developing finance professional to gain exposure to technical accounting, financial reporting, capital expenditure accounting and SAP-based asset management.

What you'll do:

  • Manage the day-to-day Asset Management shared inbox, responding to and processing requests from global business areas.
  • Process fixed asset transactions within SAP, including asset creations, capitalisations, transfers, retirements, disposals and scheme closures.
  • Create and maintain capital projects and asset schemes, ensuring appropriate approvals and accurate accounting treatment.
  • Maintain the fixed asset register and ensure all records are accurate, complete and up to date.
  • Support month-end close activities, including asset accounting, depreciation, accruals and fixed asset reconciliations.
  • Assist with the preparation of management and statutory reporting relating to fixed assets.
  • Support half-year and year-end reporting requirements, including the preparation of fixed asset disclosures and audit documentation.
  • Transfer and reconcile fixed asset information between SAP and reporting systems such as HFM.
  • Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, audit schedules and supporting documentation to maintain financial control.
  • Respond to internal and external auditor requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Produce reports and analysis for the business on the status of capital projects, asset schemes and fixed asset activity.
  • Work closely with Capital Controllers and finance stakeholders to support ongoing transactional and reporting requirements.
  • Deliver timely, accurate and reliable financial information in line with agreed service level agreements and reporting deadlines.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes, controls and reporting within the Asset Management function.

The skills you'll need:

  • Part-qualified accountant (AAT, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent) or an Accounting/Finance degree with plans to pursue a professional qualification.
  • Previous experience in a finance, accounting, financial reporting or capital expenditure environment.
  • Good technical accounting knowledge and understanding of financial controls.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience supporting month-end reporting and reconciliations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Experience using SAP or a similar ERP accounting system.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Customer-focused with a commitment to delivering a high-quality service.
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a small team and across global business functions.
