Head of Data Services in Edinburgh

On behalf of Tesco Bank, AMS are now looking for a Head of Data Services based in Edinburgh (Hybrid) for an initial contract length of 6 Months.

The Role and Responsbilities:

Tesco Bank is seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Data Services to join on a 6-month contract, with strong potential for extension. This senior role will be instrumental in building and shaping a modern data function from the ground up. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in cloud-based data platforms, leadership in data services, and experience structuring high-performing data teams.

• Lead the development and implementation of the Data Services function, including defining team structure, operating model, and service offerings.

• Oversee the setup and management of a modern cloud-based data platform, ideally using Microsoft Fabric.

• Collaborate closely with other business units to align data services with organisational goals and technology strategy.

• Drive the build-out of the data platform, focusing on scalability, usability, and performance.

• Provide strategic input into platform architecture, team design, and future capability planning.

• Act as a senior leader and thought partner, not focused on day-to-day operations but on long-term planning and enablement.

• Influence and define how the Data Services team integrates with broader IT and business operations.

Key Accountabilities, Skills & Experience:

• Proven experience leading data transformation programs and building data capabilities from the ground up.

• Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with modern data platforms, especially cloud-based solutions (experience with Microsoft Fabric is a strong advantage).

• Demonstrated success in designing and structuring data teams, including operating models and service frameworks.

• Experience managing or overseeing teams of 20+ data professionals.

• Strong understanding of enterprise data architecture, platform governance, and data lifecycle management.

• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to operate effectively at senior levels.

• Experience with AI and advanced analytics is highly desirable.
