On behalf of our globally respected client who develop cutting-edge technologies that deliver clean, safe and competitive solutions to meet the planet's vital power needs, we are looking for a Technical Author for a 6 month contract based in Bristol.
Job description - the role
- Develop, maintain, and amend technical publications and methods documentation for engine assembly and disassembly.
- Define and document processes for engine maintenance and overhaul activities.
- Collaborate with Mechanical Engineers (MEs) to translate technical instructions into clear, usable documentation.
- Interpret and incorporate design changes into existing methods and publications.
- Ensure compliance with engineering standards and documentation protocols.
- Manage and prioritize updates across a portfolio of ~250 publications spanning multiple engine profiles.
- Liaise with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment between design, development, and maintenance documentation.
- Support knowledge transfer and mentoring within the team, especially around EJ200 and Adour engine documentation.
Essential Criteria:
- Proven experience in technical publications or methods engineering within an aerospace or engineering environment.
- Strong understanding of engine assembly/disassembly processes.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and design changes.
- Experience working with Mechanical Engineers to develop or refine technical instructions.
- Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment with regular on-site collaboration.
- Strong organizational skills to manage a large volume of documentation.
Desirable Criteria:
- Hands-on mechanical experience (e.g., ex-RAF mechanic or similar background).
- Experience in Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) environments.
- Familiarity with EJ200 and Adour engine platforms.
- Background in control systems or development engineering, with an understanding of requirements capture and documentation.
- Experience using technical publication tools and standards (e.g., S1000D, SGML/XML-based systems).
- Prior experience managing or contributing to large-scale documentation projects.
