Role Overview
As a Personal Tax Manager/Senior Manager, you will oversee a varied portfolio of clients, delivering high-quality personal tax compliance and advisory services. The role focuses exclusively on tax, covering a broad range of complex planning matters. The position is primarily based across two of our offices in Stockport and Droylsden, as required. (Hybrid)
- Portfolio management - Manage a personal tax portfolio of c.300–350 clients, delivering high-quality compliance and advisory work.
- Client engagement - Meet regularly with clients, provide clear guidance, and build strong, long-term relationships.
- Tax return oversight - Prepare and review personal tax returns, ensuring accuracy, timely filing and full HMRC compliance.
- Tax planning - Provide proactive planning advice across residence/domicile, CGT, IHT, trusts and income tax.
- Efficiency opportunities - Identify ways to enhance client tax efficiency and communicate recommendations clearly.
- Primary client contact - Act as the main point of contact, managing queries, resolving issues and maintaining service excellence.
- Team leadership - Supervise and support junior team members, reviewing work and contributing to their development.
- Collaboration & growth - Work with the director on complex advisory projects and contribute to department growth.
Experience & Skills Required
- Personal tax expertise — Extensive experience managing a large and varied portfolio (c.300–350 clients) with strong technical knowledge across income tax, CGT, IHT, residence/domicile and general planning.
- Client-facing confidence — Comfortable meeting clients, discussing their affairs and delivering clear, practical advice.
- Tax return preparation — Skilled in preparing and reviewing personal tax returns, including complex cases.
- Legislation interpretation — Able to interpret complex legislation and communicate advice to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Team support — Experience supervising or mentoring junior team members.
- Autonomous working — Strong organisational skills with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
- Relationship building — Excellent communication skills with the ability to build trust and maintain long-term client relationships.
