Breedon Group are looking for an Apprentice Mechanical Maintenance Engineer to complete a Level 3 Mechatronics Maintenance apprenticeship and join their team. Reporting to the Quarry Manager, the candidate will ensure all mechanical maintenance, operation and plant efficiency is optimised, with a focus on energy reduction and sustainability. This is with an aim to maintain the safe, maximum level of availability and reliability at the lowest level of maintenance costs, covering all mechanical equipment, installations and buildings on the plant. The candidate will be responsible for the maintenance of quarry plant and machinery equipment at each unit. During the apprenticeship, the successful candidate will undertake appropriate theoretical and practical training to develop the knowledge, skills and experience required to achieve the qualifications whilst learning the practical skills through on-the-job experience.
Role & responsibilities
- Health and Safety
- Learn to lead by example in all aspects of Health, Safety and Wellbeing
- Assist the Quarry Manager to ensure the implementation and promotion of the Company Health, Safety & Wellbeing Policy, procedures, and safety commitments
- Gain an understanding and appreciation in the production of Method Statements and Risk Assessments
- Deliver Safety Inductions and Start of Shift briefings to the site teams and supply chain
- Participate in Toolbox Talks and safety related messages to site teams
- Promote good housekeeping and professional working practices
- Support site based HSEQ audits and inspections
- Take responsibility for embedding the Company Safety Commitments and the implementation and compliance of Health and Safety legislation by supporting, managing and challenging Health & Safety in the workplace
- General Duties
- Assist facilitation and coordination of the repair and maintenance of Quarrying plant and machinery i.e. carrying out any repairs/maintenance for crushers, screening, conveyor systems and some hydraulic equipment
- Help to assist quarry management in the programming of scheduled maintenance aligned to production requirements
- Help eliminate preventable plant breakdowns by ensuring critical equipment and supply of spares is ordered timeously and is cost effective
- Be flexible by carrying out emergency repairs on equipment when they arise
- Help when undertaking risk assessment and associated paperwork, of the relevant activities to ensure a suitable and effective safe system of work
- Take responsibility for embedding the Company Safety Commitments and the implementation and compliance of Health and Safety legislation by supporting, managing and challenging Health & Safety in the workplace

Things to consider:
- During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study. You will return to your workplace one Friday per month. After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

- Please note that this role requires a minimum of 5 GCSE's grade 5-9 with a 6 in maths.
