Amplifying Life is a London-based light research, education, and hardware company. We research photobiomodulation (PBM), educate people about it through books and independent reports, and build devices that put the science to work. Our book, The Sun Inside You, has a foreword by Prof. Michael Hamblin — one of the world's leading photobiomodulation researchers (600+ peer-reviewed publications) and the person who named the field. Prof. Hamblin sits on our scientific advisory board.
We are members of the Royal Society of Medicine, Microsoft for Startups, Barclays Eagle Labs, and Capital Enterprise. Founded by an engineer with 20+ years in embedded electronics and intellectual property — patents cited by Microsoft, Google, Apple, Qualcomm, and Cisco.
The programme involves researching how specific light wavelengths interact with appetite-signalling pathways — including the same pathways targeted by GLP-1 drugs such as Ozempic™ and Wegovy™, but using light rather than pharmaceuticals. This is not a speculative research project. We arrive with real work already done:
- Patent drafted on the core approach
- Hardware developed — working devices, built in London
- Skin interface developed — the physical delivery mechanism is solved
What we need now is a specialist who can package this into winning applications and guide us through the process.
What you will be doing:
- Leading applications to Innovate UK, NIHR, Horizon Europe, and other relevant UK and European funding programmes
- Identifying which programmes we should apply to, in what order, and when
- Writing the applications themselves, working closely with the founder on technical input
- Managing timelines, submissions, and follow-ups
- After successful awards: handling reporting, compliance, and setting up the next round of applications
We want you involved beyond the first application. This is a long-term role for someone who wants to be part of what we are building, not a one-off pitch and exit.
What we are looking for:
- Demonstrable track record of successful grant applications — please be ready to show us actual awarded grants, not just submitted ones
- Experience with Innovate UK, NIHR, or Horizon Europe. At least one of the three
- Medtech, biotech, or life-sciences background. You don't need to be a scientist, but you need to speak the language
- Ability to work independently and manage your own deadlines
- UK-based (remote work is fine, but UK tax residency matters for some funding bodies)
- Useful but not required: Experience with wearable device applications, familiarity with photobiomodulation or light-based research, contacts at assessment panels or evaluators, experience with larger awards (£100k+)
The offer:
- Retainer during active application periods — covers the intensive writing and submission work
- Success fee on awarded grants — exact percentage discussed at interview stage
- Ongoing engagement after successful applications — reporting, compliance, and the next application cycle
We are open to discussing the exact structure based on experience and commitment. We are more interested in the long-term relationship than in squeezing the first contract. You will work directly with the founder. You will not be working through committees or corporate procurement.
How to apply:
Apply through our website — not LinkedIn. Do not DM the founder. Visit and complete the short application form (about 5 minutes). We read every application personally. If we think there's a fit, we'll be in touch.
