We are an established precision engineering business looking to strengthen our machining team with one or two experienced CNC Turners capable of setting, operating, and ideally programming multi-axis CNC lathes. This is a fantastic opportunity for skilled engineers who take pride in producing high-quality, close-tolerance components for demanding applications.
About the Role
You will be responsible for programming, setting, and operating CNC turning centres (twin spindle with driven tooling) to manufacture precision components to engineering drawings and quality standards. This hands-on role combines technical expertise with problem-solving to ensure efficient, accurate, and reliable production.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up CNC lathes, including tooling, fixtures, and chucking/collet systems.
- Create programs via CAM software or directly at the machine (Fanuc control).
- Operate 2-axis and multi-axis turning centres with driven tooling.
- Monitor production for dimensional accuracy, consistency, and repeatability.
- Optimise process parameters to improve cycle times and tool life.
- Interpret engineering drawings and CAD models to produce precision parts.
- Carry out in-process and final inspection using micrometres, verniers, gauges, and CMM (where applicable).
- Perform routine preventative maintenance and ensure safe working practices.
What We Are Looking For
Essential:
- Proven background as a CNC Turner Setter/Operator within precision engineering.
- Skilled at setting up lathes from scratch, selecting tools, and applying offsets.
- Experience with Fanuc-controlled machines.
- Knowledge of engineering drawings, GD&T, and precision inspection techniques.
- Detail-oriented, reliable, and committed to producing quality work.
Desirable:
- CNC programming experience (at-machine or offline CAM).
- Experience with multi-axis turning centres (Y-axis, driven tooling, sub-spindle).
- Formal engineering qualifications (Apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC, HND).
Why Join Us?
- Secure and growing business within the precision engineering sector.
- Modern, well-equipped workshop environment.
- Competitive pay with overtime and shift premiums where applicable.
- Opportunities for skills development and progression.
- Supportive, team-oriented culture that values precision, integrity, and initiative.
If you are a motivated CNC Turner who takes pride in your craft and wants to work on technically interesting projects as part of a focused, professional team we would love to hear from you.
