We are a well-established precision engineering company seeking skilled CNC Milling Setter/Operators, ideally with programming experience, to join our growing production team. This is an excellent opportunity for experienced machinists who take pride in producing high-quality components to tight tolerances and want to work in a clean, modern workshop with advanced CNC machinery.
About the Role
You will set, operate, and program CNC milling machines to manufacture precision-engineered components in a variety of materials. You’ll work from detailed engineering drawings and CAD data to deliver quality, efficiency, and repeatability across small and medium batch runs.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up CNC milling machines, including tooling, fixtures, offsets, and work holding.
- Program via Hypermill CAM software or directly at the machine (Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens, or other).
- Operate 3-, 4-, or 5-axis CNC machines to produce precision components.
- Monitor production for accuracy, repeatability, and surface finish.
- Adjust and optimise machining programs to improve cycle times, tool life, and production efficiency.
- Interpret complex engineering drawings and 3D models.
- Perform in-process and final inspection using precision tools (micrometres, verniers, height gauges, CMM where applicable).
- Carry out routine machine maintenance and adhere to all safety and housekeeping standards.
What We’re Looking For
Essential:
- Proven experience as a CNC Milling Setter/Operator in a precision machining environment.
- Ability to set machines from scratch, select tooling, and work independently.
- Strong knowledge of CNC controls (Fanuc).
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Skilled in using measurement tools for close-tolerance inspection.
- Attention to detail and a methodical approach to problem-solving.
Desirable:
- Ability to program using CAM software (Hypermill preferred) or at the machine.
- Experience with multi-axis (4- or 5-axis) machining centres.
- Recognised engineering qualifications (Apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, HNC/HND).
Personal Attributes
- Committed to quality, accuracy, and continuous improvement.
- Reliable, punctual, and self-motivated.
- Strong teamwork and communication skills.
- Safety-conscious and well-organised in a busy production environment.
Why Join Us?
- Modern, well-equipped manufacturing facility.
- Competitive hourly rate with overtime and potential shift premiums.
- Opportunities for training and skill development.
- Supportive company culture with a focus on precision and craftsmanship.
