Our client, an engineering organisation developing advanced power electronics and electrified vehicle systems, is seeking a Senior Electronics Design Engineer to lead PCB and hardware design activities. The role involves owning hardware design from concept through to production release, working closely with embedded software, systems, and mechanical teams. You will be responsible for the design of complex, high-reliability electronics for demanding automotive and industrial environments, with a strong emphasis on signal integrity, EMC, and design-for-manufacture principles.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead electronics hardware design from requirements capture through to production release
- Design and review complex multi-layer PCBs for power electronics, motor control, and ECU applications
- Define and own hardware architecture for new products and platforms
- Perform schematic capture and PCB layout using industry-standard EDA tools (e.g. Altium Designer)
- Conduct design reviews, FMEA, and DFM/DFT analysis
- Support hardware bring-up, debug, and validation activities in the lab
- Collaborate with embedded software engineers on hardware/software interface definition
- Work with supply chain and manufacturing teams to support component selection and qualification
- Produce and maintain hardware design documentation to appropriate standards
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team capability development
Qualifications
- Degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
- Significant experience in electronics hardware design for automotive, industrial, or high-reliability applications
- Strong proficiency with Altium Designer or equivalent EDA tooling
- Experience designing for EMC compliance and signal integrity in mixed-signal environments
- Familiarity with automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C)
- Experience with hardware bring-up, oscilloscope debugging, and lab-based validation
- Understanding of functional safety principles (ISO 26262 awareness beneficial)
- Strong documentation skills and experience with formal design review processes
- Experience with high-voltage or high-current power electronics hardware
- Familiarity with AUTOSAR hardware abstraction layer requirements
- Experience with SPICE simulation or equivalent circuit modelling tools
- Background in EV, HEV, or powertrain electronics
