An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Lead, Principal or Chief Engineer to support an innovative aerospace organisation developing propeller systems for their next-generation electric aircraft. This role will provide technical leadership for the design, development, integration and certification of advanced propeller systems used within a highly integrated electric propulsion platform. Working within a multidisciplinary engineering team, the successful candidate will play a key role in delivering a safe, reliable and certifiable aircraft programme from development through certification.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the technical authority for propeller systems, providing engineering leadership throughout the product development lifecycle.
- Define, evaluate and approve propeller system architectures, including blades, hubs, spinners and associated hardware, ensuring compliance with performance, safety and certification requirements.
- Lead complex engineering activities including concept development, trade studies, design reviews, analysis and technical decision-making.
- Produce and review technical documentation, design data and certification evidence to support regulatory approval.
- Support certification activities in accordance with applicable aerospace regulations and airworthiness standards.
- Apply specialist knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, durability and in-service performance to optimise propeller designs.
- Collaborate closely with aerodynamics, structures, composites, loads, dynamics, systems integration and safety engineering teams to ensure successful system integration.
- Provide technical mentoring and leadership to engineers within the propeller team, promoting engineering excellence and best practice.
- Support development, qualification and certification testing, including attendance at supplier facilities and test sites where required.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes, standards and product development methodologies.
Essential Requirements
- Degree (or equivalent experience) in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Significant experience designing, developing or certifying propeller systems, rotor systems or other rotating aerospace machinery.
- Strong understanding of propeller design principles, structural behaviour, materials and manufacturing methods.
- Experience leading technical decision-making on complex engineering programmes.
- Knowledge of aerospace certification processes and applicable airworthiness regulations relating to propeller systems.
- Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams across product development and system integration.
- Ability to balance technical, commercial and programme considerations when making engineering decisions.
- Willingness to travel to development, manufacturing and test facilities as required.
Desirable
- Experience with electric propulsion systems or advanced aircraft programmes.
- Knowledge of rotordynamics, vibration, aeroelasticity or composite structures.
- Experience integrating propeller systems within larger aircraft or propulsion architectures.
- Familiarity with certification authority engagement and compliance activities.
- Previous experience acting as a technical approver, compliance engineer or subject matter expert.
- Experience supporting aircraft development through verification, qualification and certification testing.
