Our client, a global engineering and manufacturing organisation specialising in industrial power testing and electrical equipment, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development and integration of mechanical assemblies within complex engineered products. Working closely with Electrical, Systems, and Software Engineering teams, the successful candidate will contribute to product development activities from concept through manufacture, ensuring designs meet performance, quality, cost, and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Translate customer and project requirements into mechanical design specifications and solutions.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models and engineering drawings using SolidWorks, considering performance, manufacturability, cost, and component availability.
- Maintain structured product data and documentation within PDM systems.
- Collaborate with Electrical and Systems Engineering teams to develop safe, practical, and cost-effective solutions.
- Support suppliers and manufacturing partners during prototype and production build activities.
- Resolve design and manufacturing issues throughout development, production, testing, and service phases.
- Produce detailed engineering documentation, including layouts, calculations, and technical reports.
- Participate in prototype development and testing activities.
- Ensure accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) are maintained and released in accordance with project schedules.
- Prepare and review documentation to satisfy customer, company, and regulatory requirements.
- Keep current with manufacturing technologies, design standards, and engineering best practices.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
- Proficiency with SolidWorks; knowledge of PDM systems and FEA tools would be advantageous.
- Experience designing sheet metal and fabricated assemblies; experience with welded assemblies would be advantageous.
- Familiarity with cable routing and integration considerations is beneficial.
- Strong technical problem-solving skills and ability to manage competing priorities.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively with both internal teams and external suppliers.
- Familiarity with BOM management and engineering documentation processes.
- Competent with Microsoft Office applications.
- Collaborative and team-oriented approach.
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced engineering environment.
