An exciting opportunity has become available for an experienced High Voltage (HV) Systems Engineer to join an innovative aerospace engineering team developing next-generation electric propulsion technologies. Working within a multidisciplinary environment, you will play a key role in defining, developing and integrating high-voltage electrical architectures for advanced aircraft platforms. The role offers involvement across the complete product lifecycle, from concept development and system architecture through verification, certification and flight-ready hardware. This position would suit an engineer with experience in high-voltage aircraft systems, electric propulsion, battery or fuel cell technologies, and aerospace certification programmes.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop high-voltage electrical system architectures for advanced aerospace platforms.
- Define system-level electrical distribution strategies for propulsion and aircraft power systems.
- Lead the specification and development of High Voltage Power Distribution Units (HV PDUs) and associated electrical hardware.
- Support the design and integration of Low Voltage (LV) electrical distribution systems where required.
- Produce system requirements, interface definitions and electrical architecture documentation.
- Ensure system designs satisfy aerospace safety, certification and regulatory requirements.
- Support system integration, verification, validation and environmental qualification activities.
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including power electronics, battery, fuel cell, controls, software and mechanical engineering.
- Participate in system design reviews, technical risk assessments and architecture trade studies.
- Contribute to safety analyses including FMEA, FHA and other system safety activities.
- Support supplier engagement, component selection and technical oversight throughout development.
- Drive continuous improvement and contribute to future technology roadmaps for electrified aircraft systems.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or a related discipline.
- Several years of experience developing electrical systems within aerospace or another highly regulated industry.
- Experience developing high-voltage electrical systems for aerospace or other safety-critical industries.
- Knowledge of electrical system architecture for electric propulsion platforms.
- Experience with High Voltage Power Distribution Unit (HV PDU) development and integration.
- Familiarity with aircraft electrical power distribution systems.
- Understanding of high-voltage component integration including contactors, fuses, pre-charge circuits and isolation monitoring.
- Experience with electrical system integration from concept through verification and certification.
- Ability to work within highly regulated engineering environments.
Desirable
- Chartered status or progress towards professional registration.
- DO-160 environmental qualification experience.
- Knowledge of aerospace system development standards and aircraft certification processes.
- Experience with functional safety and system safety assessments.
- Background in battery-electric, hydrogen fuel cell, or hybrid-electric propulsion.
- Experience with energy storage integration, electric motors and inverters.
- Verification and validation planning and requirements management.
