We are seeking an experienced Battery Management Systems Specialist to take a senior technical role in the development of advanced BMS hardware for lithium-ion battery applications. You will provide technical leadership across multiple engineering programmes, driving best practice in hardware design, functional safety and reliability. The role offers involvement across the full hardware development lifecycle, from concept architecture and schematic capture through PCB design, verification and industrialisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading the development of Battery Management System hardware from concept through production release.
- Producing and reviewing schematics and multilayer PCB designs for safety-critical BMS applications.
- Integrating battery monitoring ICs from leading semiconductor manufacturers into BMS hardware designs.
- Defining and implementing hardware architectures that meet functional safety requirements.
- Supporting hardware verification, validation, root cause analysis and technical investigations.
- Driving best practice in hardware functional safety, reliability engineering and DFMEA activities.
- Collaborating closely with software, systems, controls, mechanical and electrical engineering teams throughout development.
- Supporting customer workshops, feasibility studies, technical proposals and technology planning activities.
- Evaluating emerging semiconductor technologies, battery monitoring devices and hardware design methodologies.
- Developing engineering standards, design guidelines and technical documentation.
- Working with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure successful product industrialisation.
Essential Requirements
- Degree in Electronics Engineering or a closely related discipline.
- Significant experience developing Battery Management System hardware for lithium-ion battery applications.
- Strong knowledge of battery monitoring ICs and integration of devices from leading semiconductor manufacturers.
- Experience producing and reviewing schematics and multilayer PCB designs for safety-critical products.
- Hands-on experience with laboratory debugging, fault finding and electronic test equipment.
- Knowledge of circuit simulation and electronic verification techniques.
- Experience supporting structured engineering development processes and functional safety activities.
- Proven ability to provide technical leadership across multiple engineering programmes.
Desirable
- Energy Storage Systems development within Industrial Electrification, e-mobility or Defence industries.
- Functional Safety (ISO 26262, IEC 61508 or equivalent).
- UN ECE R100 or related battery regulations.
- Traction battery systems experience.
- High-voltage development and test environments.
- FPGA-based hardware integration.
- Advanced diagnostics or fault monitoring architectures.
- Technical roadmap development and R&D activities.
