The Vacancy: This role is a fixed term position for 12 months.

Purpose of the role: The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering projects within a manufacturing environment, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards. This includes managing the acquisition and commissioning of new assets, implementing software and hardware systems, and driving infrastructure improvements that enhance operational efficiency and capacity. Acting as the central link between stakeholders, contractors, and internal teams, the Project Engineer also leads departmental project governance, embeds best practices, and ensures compliance with health, safety, and regulatory requirements to support the long term growth and competitiveness of the business.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • End-to-End Project Delivery: Manage projects from end to end, including scoping, planning, execution, monitoring, and handover.
  • Budget & Cost Control: Develop, monitor, and control project budgets, ensuring financial accountability and value for money.
  • Technical Documentation & Planning: Produce User Requirement Specifications (URS), Gantt charts, and project documentation to support clear communication and milestone tracking.
  • Manufacturing Asset Projects: Lead the acquisition, installation, and commissioning of new production assets, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.
  • Systems Implementation: Oversee the deployment of new software and hardware systems, ensuring integration with existing processes and alignment with operational needs.
  • Infrastructure Improvements: Deliver upgrades to facilities, utilities, and supporting infrastructure to enhance safety, efficiency, and capacity.
  • Governance & Best Practice: Champion project management governance within the department, embedding best practices and continuous improvement.
  • Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams, contractors, and suppliers to ensure seamless coordination and timely delivery.
  • Safety & Compliance: Ensure strict adherence to safe systems of work, including Permit to Work (PTW), Risk Assessments (RAMS), Method Statements, and relevant manufacturing safety standards.
  • Carry out such other duties that may be reasonably requested.

Person Specification:

Essential:

  • Qualifications: HNC in Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management or equivalent in a related discipline.
  • Experience: Proven experience in project engineering within a manufacturing or industrial environment. Strong knowledge of asset acquisition, commissioning, and system integration. Excellent understanding of URS development and technical documentation. Familiarity with safety systems and compliance frameworks (PTW, RAMS, CDM).
  • Technical: Proficiency in project planning tools (e.g., MS Project, Primavera). Fundamental principles regarding project lifecycle management, budget control and finance tracking, scheduling tools and techniques (Gantt, critical paths), governance frameworks (Prince2 APM, PMI).
  • Skills and Competencies: Strong communication and stakeholder management skills. Ability to lead governance initiatives and drive continuous improvement. Patient, problem solver, diligent and goal driven.

Desirable:

  • Qualifications: Degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Project Management, or a related discipline. Project Management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP) desirable. NEBOSH or IOSH certification advantageous.
