Quality Engineer – The Role
In this hands‑on Quality Engineer role, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality of parts produced meets all customer expectations, taking quick and effective action whenever non‑conformances are found. You will maintain the most recent interpretations of the quality system requirements and ensure that documented practices meet the true interpretation of the quality management system standards. Supporting manufacturing and the wider business in shipping product that meets customer requirements, you will work within a small quality team of five, reporting directly to the Quality & EHS Manager.
Quality Engineer – Key Responsibilities
- Support electrical and mechanical inspection of incoming materials and components in line with internal and external customer specifications
- Support the SCAR (supplier corrective action report) system, including follow up with supplier to closure
- Assist with the monitor supplier performance and report to management team on a monthly basis
- Maintain records of inspection and testing in line with specifications
- Support the measurement and analysis of customer returns and internal rejects / failures
- Assist with the preparation and maintenance of quality requirements for customers in regard to PPAP, FMEA, control plans and flow diagrams
- In-line gauge and process capability
- Assist with quality planning / design process programmes, using statistical techniques
- Understanding of engineering specifications, tolerances and drawings
- Assist in the understanding of and implementation of Quality Systems and Quality Standards, in particular the business’ intent to progress to IATF 16949, including auditing
- Provide support to the rest of the team as required
Quality Engineer – You
- Qualified to HND / HNC level, with previous experience of working in Quality Management
- Experience of working with Electrical and Electronic components, in a manufacturing environment
- Five years’ experience of working in an environment using certified management systems (e.g., TS 16949, ISO)
- Proven track record of driving or supporting continuous quality improvement in a manufacturing environment
- Customer quality assurance experience
- Previous audit experience
- Multi-skilled into other engineering disciplines
- Ability to understand and follow technical documents, circuit diagrams and schematics
- Fully PC literate, including standard office software
