The Vacancy

Purpose of the role

Setting and operating CNC sliding head lathes to manufacture components from raw material (bar stock) for our internal assembly flow lines to the highest quality and on time.

This role operates on a two-week rotating shift pattern, covering both morning and evening shifts.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Setting and operating CNC sliding head lathes to produce medium to large size batches of work in a timely manner.
  • Inspecting work to Engineering drawings using various measuring equipment and reporting any quality defects to the machine shop supervisor.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly maintenance checks on machines, including maintaining good housekeeping standards and reporting any issues promptly to supervision.
  • Optimising efficiencies through reduced set-up and cycle times, plus tool life monitoring.
  • Deburring, cleaning, final inspection and completion of all traceability documentation
  • Adhering to Health and Safety procedures.
  • Carry out such other duties that may be reasonably requested.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • GCSE, or equivalent, in English and Maths Grade C or above or relevant experience.
  • Technical Knowledge
  • A knowledge of operating CNC machine tools.
  • Experience of CNC lathes with a minimum of 4 axis.
  • Experience of reading and editing Fanuc based programs.
  • Competent in reading and understanding engineering drawings and be able to inspect their work using a range of measurement equipment to ensure the product is correct to drawing.

Experience

  • Knowledge of operating twin spindle machines would be an advantage.
  • The ability to work to AS9100 aerospace quality standard.
