The Vacancy:
Purpose of the Role
This role focuses on minimizing downtime, improving asset performance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to support organisational goals such as OEE, Schedule adherence, Utilization and MRO spend. By implementing structured processes and supporting cross functional teams, the RE will contribute to ensuring the safe and effective integration of new assets to optimise the opportunity for that asset to contribute to the business goals of absorption, revenue and OTIF.
Duties & Responsibilities
Maintain a responsible attitude to work, be able to work unsupervised and apply technical and manual skills required to meet requirements of the role when carrying out:
Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Pillars
- Autonomous Maintenance : Develop and implement training programs to empower operators to perform routine maintenance tasks, ensuring equipment is maintained at optimal conditions.
- Planned Maintenance : Design and manage preventive and predictive maintenance schedules to reduce unplanned downtime and extend equipment lifespan. Execute activities such as asset criticality to identify operational constraints, develop roadmaps to eliminate or mitigate identified risks.
- Focused Improvement : Lead cross-functional teams to identify and eliminate root causes of equipment failures using tools like Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA).
- Early Equipment Management : Collaborate with the production, engineering and Facilities and Maintenance teams during the design and installation phases to ensure new equipment meets reliability and maintainability standards. Ensure that he EEM process flow is followed and adhered to, supporting to achieve each milestone along
- Training and Education : Facilitate training sessions on TPM principles and reliability best practices to enhance workforce skills and foster a culture of continuous improvement. Co-ordinate training of key stakeholders aligned with EEM strategy.
- Safety, Health, and Environment : Integrate safety protocols into maintenance strategies to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and promote a safe working environment.
- Quality Maintenance : Implement processes to maintain equipment performance that supports consistent product quality, minimizing defects caused by equipment issues.
- Administration : Apply TPM principles to administrative processes, streamlining workflows to support maintenance and reliability initiatives.
Budget Management
- Monitor and report on budget performance, identifying variances and implementing corrective actions to stay within financial targets.
- Evaluate cost-benefit analyses for maintenance strategies, balancing reliability improvements with budgetary constraints.
- Apply DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyse, Improve, Control)methodology to identify and eliminate waste, reduce variability, and improve equipment reliability.
- Utilize 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain)to organize maintenance workspaces, improving efficiency and safety.
- Conduct Kaizenevents to drive incremental improvements in maintenance processes and equipment performance.
- Use statistical tools such as control charts and Pareto analysis to monitor equipment performance and prioritize improvement initiatives.
Additional Responsibilities
- Analyse equipment performance data to identify trends, predict failures, and recommend proactive maintenance strategies.
- Collaborate with procurement to ensure availability of high-quality spare parts and vendor support.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, equipment performance, and reliability metrics using Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Support capital projects by providing reliability input during equipment selection and commissioning phases.
- Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices in reliability engineering and maintenance.
- Ensuring day-to-day discipline is maintained in accordance with Company policies and procedures, including time & attendance, absence and holidays, and identifying and implementing action as necessary or escalating more serious issues to the F&M Manager.
- Identifying individual training needs as appropriate.
- Lead and coordinate activities with approved contractors to complete Facilities and Maintenance driven tasks safely and efficiently.
- Carry out such other duties that may be reasonably requested.
Person Specification
Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt or equivalent in methodologies such as Kaizen.
- Relevant industry certifications such as Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or equivalent.
Experience
- Min 2 years of experience in reliability engineering in a manufacturing environment.
- Developing and implementing an RCM strategy with tangible wins.
- Delivering continuous improvement initiatives aligned with TPM methodologies.
- Leading cross-functional exercises aligned with DMAIC principles including techniques such as Ishikawa & 5 whys at the Analyse phase or 5S, Kanban, SOP at the Improve phase.
Technical
- Strong knowledge of TPM principles.
- Clear understanding of Lean Six Sigma methodology.
- Experience with predictive maintenance supported by CBM technologies (e.g., vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis).
- Strong knowledge of Kaizen principles.
Skills and Competencies
- Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools (e.g., Minitab, Excel, or similar).
- Experience with CMMS software (e.g., SAP, MaintainX, or equivalent).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
- Familiar in building KPI dashboards in software such as PowerBi or equivalent visualization software.
- Strong communication and training skills to engage with operators, technicians, and management.
- Effective communicator in both written and verbal form.
- Attributes such as patience, diligence and being goal driven whilst holding oneself accountable for delivering success.
Qualifications
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher
- Mechanical and electrical engineering qualifications, or a time served apprenticeship
Experience
- Familiarity with budget management and cost optimization strategies.
- Proven experience in a maintenance capacity in a manufacturing environment
Technical
- Knowledge of industry standards such as ISO 55000 (Asset Management) or ISO 9001 (Quality Management).
- Competent in the 8D problem solving technique.
Skills and Competencies
- Familiar with Qlick is advantageous.
