Ampere Recruitment is seeking a Senior Power Electronics Engineer specialising in Silicon Carbide (SiC) technology for mid-power applications, focusing on DC-DC and DC-AC converters. This role requires a high level of expertise in simulation-driven design. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience in power electronics, specifically with SiC devices, and a deep understanding of simulation tools to optimize performance, efficiency, and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and Development: Lead the design and optimisation of mid-power SiC-based power electronic systems, including DC-DC converters (such as Buck, Boost, and Buck-Boost converters) and DC-AC inverters (single-phase and three-phase), to meet performance and efficiency targets.
- Simulation Expertise: Perform detailed simulations (thermal, electrical, and mechanical) to evaluate and refine converter and inverter designs. Utilise tools such as LTSpice, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar to simulate key aspects such as: Switching Losses, Thermal Management, Voltage Regulation, Power Conversion Efficiency, Control Loop Stability, and Transient Response.
- Prototyping and Testing: Develop prototypes and oversee testing of DC-DC and DC-AC systems to validate designs against simulations, optimising for EMI/EMC compliance, reliability, and efficiency.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with teams involved in broader system integration, ensuring DC-DC and DC-AC converters fit seamlessly within power systems.
- Documentation: Create detailed technical documentation, including simulation reports, design specifications, and test results, supporting both development and regulatory compliance.
- Continuous Improvement: Stay current with advances in SiC and power conversion technology, applying innovative methods to improve converter efficiency, switching frequency, and thermal performance.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field.
- Experience: 5+ years in power electronics design, with a focus on SiC technology in DC-DC and DC-AC applications.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in simulation tools such as LTSpice, PLECS, MATLAB/Simulink, with experience in modeling converter topologies (e.g., Buck, Boost, Flyback, and Inverter circuits). Strong understanding of SiC power devices, high-frequency switching, gate drivers, and thermal management. Knowledge of EMI/EMC requirements, control theory, and closed-loop feedback for converters and inverters.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset to work effectively within cross-functional teams.
- Preferred Skills: Knowledge of resonant converter topologies (LLC, ZVS/ZCS) and high-frequency transformers. Experience with high-voltage/high-current DC-DC converters and three-phase DC-AC inverter applications. Familiarity with regulatory standards for power electronics and safety certifications.
This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the future of power electronics with SiC technology. Apply today to join a cutting-edge team at the forefront of power conversion innovation!
