Ampere Recruitment is working exclusively with a world-leading developer of robotics and autonomous systems to find a Power Electronics Engineer based in Hampshire.
The Role
You'll take full ownership of the design and development lifecycle for bespoke power conversion and transmission systems — concept through to tested product. You'll drive both in-house design and the specification of outsourced solutions. Voltages range from 24V to 5kV, powers from 500W to 250kW, across everything from large-scale converters and multi-km cabled transmission to motor drives and low-voltage supplies.
Key Responsibilities
- Full-lifecycle design of power conversion and transmission solutions
- Act as Technical Authority across concurrent power projects
- Lead small multi-disciplinary teams where required
- Develop requirements specifications, design documentation and test procedures
- Support system-level integration and testing
Essential Requirements
- Significant experience in power electronics — full lifecycle, concept to tested solution
- Proven knowledge of power transmission: AC and DC, multi-km cabled applications
- DC converter topologies: Buck, Boost, Flyback, LLC, Full-Bridge
- AC conversion: single and multi-phase, power factor correction
- AC-DC, DC-DC and DC-AC inverter product design experience
- Power switching devices: MOSFET, IGBT, SiCFET, GaNFET and gate drive circuitry
- Experience with voltages to 5kV and multi-kW power levels
- Custom magnetics: transformer and inductor design/specification
- Simulation and modelling tools
- Analogue and digital design
- Filter design, thermal management, and design-for-compliance
- Control system design for power conversion
