The Role

You'll take full ownership of the design and development lifecycle for bespoke power conversion and transmission systems — concept through to tested product. You'll drive both in-house design and the specification of outsourced solutions. Voltages range from 24V to 5kV, powers from 500W to 250kW, across everything from large-scale converters and multi-km cabled transmission to motor drives and low-voltage supplies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Full-lifecycle design of power conversion and transmission solutions
  • Act as Technical Authority across concurrent power projects
  • Lead small multi-disciplinary teams where required
  • Develop requirements specifications, design documentation and test procedures
  • Support system-level integration and testing

Essential Requirements

  • Significant experience in power electronics — full lifecycle, concept to tested solution
  • Proven knowledge of power transmission: AC and DC, multi-km cabled applications
  • DC converter topologies: Buck, Boost, Flyback, LLC, Full-Bridge
  • AC conversion: single and multi-phase, power factor correction
  • AC-DC, DC-DC and DC-AC inverter product design experience
  • Power switching devices: MOSFET, IGBT, SiCFET, GaNFET and gate drive circuitry
  • Experience with voltages to 5kV and multi-kW power levels
  • Custom magnetics: transformer and inductor design/specification
  • Simulation and modelling tools
  • Analogue and digital design
  • Filter design, thermal management, and design-for-compliance
  • Control system design for power conversion

Desirable

  • High voltage experience to 5kV
  • Thermal modelling
  • Motor design and control
