Ampere Recruitment

Location: Commutable from Brighton, Crawley, Chichester, or Portsmouth

We're looking for a Senior FPGA Engineer to take technical ownership of HDL architecture for next-generation power supply platforms. You'll combine hands-on design with technical leadership, embedded within a cross-functional engineering team across the full product lifecycle.

The Role

You'll lead FPGA development from requirements capture through to verification and test, defining digital architectures for complex power supply and embedded systems. Working alongside systems, hardware, firmware, and software engineers, you'll translate system-level requirements into robust, scalable FPGA solutions β€” and provide technical mentorship to the engineers around you.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all phases of the FPGA development lifecycle: requirements, architecture, design, implementation, integration, verification, and test
  • Define and own advanced digital and FPGA architectures for complex power supply systems
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers and Program Management to decompose system-level requirements into FPGA solutions
  • Develop reusable, maintainable HDL architectures and self-checking verification frameworks
  • Drive design and peer reviews; provide technical guidance and mentorship across the team
  • Work cross-functionally with hardware, firmware, software, mechanical, and manufacturing teams to define interfaces and system performance
  • Support design for manufacture (DFM) with consideration for supply-chain constraints
  • Provide engineering support to safety, quality, and customer-facing teams as required

Required Skills & Experience

  • 8+ years of FPGA/HDL development experience
  • Strong VHDL skills (Verilog also considered)
  • Proven track record across digital design simulation, verification, and R&D environments
  • Experience developing reusable HDL architectures and self-checking test benches
  • Solid understanding of digital circuit operation, debugging, and failure analysis
  • Familiarity with high-speed digital electronics and embedded processor integration
  • Strong documentation and communication skills; comfortable working in multi-disciplinary teams
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • CI/CD pipelines and Git-based source control
  • Exposure to regulated or safety-critical environments

If you're a Senior FPGA Engineer who wants genuine technical ownership β€” not just execution β€” this is worth a conversation. Get in touch with [Name] at Ampere Recruitment.
