Ampere Recruitment is supporting a technology-focused engineering organisation that is looking to hire a Power Supply Design Engineer to strengthen its power electronics team. This role is aimed at a mid-level engineer with solid, hands-on experience designing DC/DC and AC/DC power converters, particularly across Flyback, Forward, and Half-Bridge topologies, with a good working knowledge of LLC resonant converters.

The Role

You will be involved in the design, development, and validation of power supply products, working closely with other electronics engineers to take designs from concept through to production. This is a practical, engineering-led position with a strong focus on analog power electronics design and lab-based development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop DC/DC and AC/DC power supplies for low- to mid-power applications
  • Work with Flyback, Forward, and Half-Bridge topologies and contribute to designs using LLC resonant converters
  • Perform schematic design, component selection, and design calculations
  • Support magnetics design and selection (transformers and inductors)
  • Carry out simulation and analysis to validate design approaches
  • Support PCB layout reviews, focusing on power integrity, EMI, and thermal considerations
  • Build, test, and debug prototypes in the lab
  • Support product validation, reliability testing, and transition into manufacturing
  • Produce clear technical documentation to support development and production

Required Experience

  • Commercial experience designing DC/DC and AC/DC power converters
  • Practical knowledge of Flyback, Forward, and Half-Bridge converter topologies
  • Good understanding of LLC resonant converter principles
  • Strong analog electronics fundamentals
  • Experience working with MOSFET-based power stages
  • Confident working hands-on in a lab environment with power supplies

Desirable (but not essential)

  • Experience supporting EMI/EMC testing
  • Exposure to power supply safety standards (IEC / UL)
  • Familiarity with simulation tools (SPICE or equivalent)
  • Experience working with manufacturing teams during product release

Why This Role?

  • Hands-on engineering role with clear technical ownership
  • Opportunity to develop deeper expertise in power supply design
  • Stable product-focused environment rather than consultancy-style work
  • Support from experienced senior engineers and technical leadership
  • Opportunities like this won't be around for long, so if interested, please apply with an up-to-date CV and contact information.
