Responsible for the day‑to‑day operation of the site, including the biomass and electric boilers and associated plant, you will ensure target levels of heat production, asset availability, budgetary performance, fuel management, regulatory compliance and high HSEQ standards while leading the on‑site team of site engineers, fuel operatives and third‑party contractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsibility for health, safety and environmental management on site, promoting a strong H&S culture and ensuring compliance with legislation and company policies, including audits, risk assessments and method statements.
  • Ensuring ongoing compliance with all applicable regulations and permits, including LTHW, MTHW, steam, electrical generation, high voltage equipment, environmental and planning conditions, and Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) requirements.
  • Responsibility for the safe and efficient operation, maintenance and testing of the plant, ensuring biomass boilers meet performance and efficiency targets.
  • Planning and managing maintenance activities including shutdowns, inspections, testing, reactive works and troubleshooting and maintaining asset availability.
  • Overseeing biomass fuel supply and spares management, ensuring continuous availability of correct specification fuel and critical parts in line with RHI, emissions and operational requirements.
  • Managing plant defects, warranties and liaison with Projects and subcontractors to ensure timely resolution and delivery of maintenance, capital works and upgrades to required standards.
  • Leading and managing the on‑site team, including line management, training, development, performance management and mentoring.
  • Managing the operations and maintenance budget, ensuring expenditure is controlled and within agreed limits.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for the client, maintaining strong working relationships and effective day‑to‑day communication with client engineering and maintenance teams.
  • Ensuring accurate reporting and record keeping, including fuel supply, maintenance, testing, HSEQ incidents and audits, and providing regular site reports to stakeholders.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Experienced and motivated engineering professional with a strong focus on safety, operational performance and team leadership, comfortable working in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Mechanical/electrical engineering qualification.
  • Health and safety training or qualification such as NEBOSH or IOSH.
  • Ability to enforce maintenance of HSEQ standards and ensure ongoing adherence.
  • Strong decision‑making, problem‑solving and confident course‑setting abilities.
  • Excellent leadership skills to take charge, provide clear direction and drive high team engagement and performance in a positive way.
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external stakeholders to build good working relationships with the team, contractors and the client.
  • Proven ability to manage spend within an allocated budget.
  • Strong understanding of LTHW, steam, MTHW and HTHW and power generating plant equipment.
  • Demonstrable experience in managing a heat‑generating plant and equipment within a large industrial site with a continual heat demand.
  • Previous experience in successfully managing an engineering team and achieving high performance and engagement.
  • Previous experience with controls and implementation in an energy plant.
  • Demonstrable experience of overseeing frontline mechanical and/or electrical maintenance.
  • Results‑orientated with keen interest in developing knowledge and implementing improvements to drive efficiency.

  • Competitive salary to be discussed at interview.
  • Hours of work: 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday with occasional out of hours working required to assist team when required.
