The Opportunity

We are seeking a proactive and experienced Assembly Team Leader to lead our Actuated Control Valve (ACV) production area.

This role is responsible for coordinating daily production activity to ensure products are manufactured safely, on time and to the required quality standards, while driving continuous improvement across the operation.

You will play a key role in embedding Lean Manufacturing principles, developing team capability and ensuring delivery performance meets both customer and business expectations.

What You'll Be Responsible For

You will direct and co-ordinate production activities so that approved products are manufactured to meet quality standards, on schedule, and that productivity objectives are achieved.

You will be responsible for leading, and sustaining Lean Manufacturing principles and best practices.

A key requirement is to coach and mentor the team to develop a continuous improvement, results orientated culture.

You will also effectively elevate obstacles prohibiting improved business performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • 1. Daily Operations & Delivery
  • Maintain a safe, high-performing working environment, leading daily team meetings to communicate production targets, 5S, and Health & Safety updates.
  • Ensure all products are manufactured to meet production schedules, customer demand, and quality requirements, working closely with Buyer/Planners.
  • Own and deliver On Time to Plan (OTTP) performance, proactively identifying and mitigating risks to schedule adherence.
  • Manage departmental capacity using IFS Shop Floor Workbench, aligning staffing, and overtime to meet demand.
  • Ensure all departmental employees receive appropriate training and resources to perform their jobs effectively and efficiently.
  • Support recovery plans for unplanned disruptions, ensuring minimal impact on delivery performance.
  • 2. Quality & Compliance
  • Ensure all products are manufactured in line with quality standards, maintaining controlled SOPs, ATPs, and PDI processes.
  • Own departmental PPM (Parts Per Million) defect performance, driving reduction in defects, rework, and scrap.
  • Drive Right First Time (RFT) performance across all work cells.
  • Lead containment and corrective actions for non-conformances in collaboration with Quality Assurance.
  • Always ensure adherence to inspection standards and compliance requirements.
  • 3. Continuous Improvement & Problem Solving
  • Champion and lead Lean Manufacturing practices across the department.
  • Lead structured A3 problem solving investigations for issues impacting safety, quality, delivery, or cost.
  • Apply root cause problem solving tools (5 Why, Fishbone, data analysis) to deliver sustainable corrective actions.
  • Own and maintain a continuous improvement pipeline (Kaizen funnel), prioritising high-impact improvements.
  • Standardise and sustain improvements through documented processes and follow-up audits.
  • 4. Operational Efficiency & Cost
  • Drive improvements in labour productivity, utilisation, and efficiency.
  • Eliminate waste across all 8 Lean waste categories within the production process.
  • Support inventory optimisation through effective WIP management and production flow control.
  • Contribute to cost reduction through process improvement and waste elimination initiatives.
  • 5. People Management & Leadership
  • Monitor and manage employee performance daily and twice yearly, conducting performance development reviews in line with Company processes.
  • Conduct regular team briefings, 1:1 meetings, and provide clear and timely feedback.
  • Coach and mentor team members on the shop floor to build capability and engagement.
  • Translate value stream objectives into clear, measurable team targets, ensuring accountability for safety, quality, and delivery.
  • Use visual management (e. g. SQDC boards) to track and communicate performance daily.
  • 6. Data & Decision Making
  • Use IFS and shop floor data to monitor performance, identify trends, and support proactive decision-making.
  • Escalate risks and performance gaps in a structured and timely manner to Stakeholders.

What We're Looking For

Experience & Knowledge

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a Lean Manufacturing facility.
  • Proven Lean Toolset - 5S, TPM, 8 Waste, Problem Solving (5 Why), Kaizen
  • Demonstrated strong and effective communication skills; written, oral and interpersonal
  • IFS or MRP experience.
  • Stock Control experience an advantage.
