We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Financial Accountant to join the finance team of an established manufacturing business. This role provides an excellent opportunity for an experienced finance professional to develop their career across financial reporting, management accounting, manufacturing finance, inventory, costing and financial controls. Working closely with colleagues across Finance, Operations, Sales, Procurement and Supply Chain, you will play an important role in ensuring accurate financial information and supporting effective business decision-making.

The successful candidate must have previous finance experience within a manufacturing or production environment, together with a good understanding of manufacturing costs, inventory and operational finance. This is also an excellent opportunity for someone with SAP or similar ERP experience who is looking to develop their career within a supportive and commercially focused manufacturing business. Hybrid working is available, with a combination of office and home working.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the finance team with core accounting activities, including reconciliations, invoice processing, financial reporting and month-end activities.
  • Assist with the preparation of monthly management accounts, financial reports and month-end/year-end close processes.
  • Support operational finance activities, including investigating variances, reviewing production costs and maintaining accurate ERP records.
  • Assist with manufacturing cost analysis and variance reporting, including maintaining standard costing information.
  • Support inventory accounting and stock reconciliations, including inventory provisions and reserves.
  • Assist with stock take activities, investigating discrepancies and ensuring appropriate financial records are maintained.
  • Reconcile operational and financial information within the ERP system, investigating quantity and value differences where required.
  • Support internal financial controls and audit requirements, including regular reconciliations, reporting and maintenance of supporting documentation.
  • Work with the Sales team on margin analysis, commission calculations and related financial information.
  • Provide support with credit control and overdue accounts, including monitoring outstanding balances and assisting with account management.
  • Prepare and reconcile monthly sales commission calculations and journals.
  • Support freight and purchasing processes, including purchase order processing and monthly accruals.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities and maintain accurate financial records in accordance with company policies.
  • Provide general finance support across the wider business as required.

Key Requirements

  • Previous finance or accounting experience within a manufacturing or production environment is essential.
  • Good understanding of manufacturing finance, production costs, inventory and costing processes.
  • Experience using SAP or another ERP system.
  • Strong Excel and analytical skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of numerical accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively to tight deadlines, particularly during month-end.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively with colleagues across different areas of the business.
  • A proactive approach with a willingness to learn and take on additional responsibilities.
  • Studying towards, or interested in studying towards, a professional accounting qualification such as ACA, ACCA or CIMA.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience with standard costing and manufacturing variance analysis.
  • Experience with inventory accounting and stock reconciliations.
  • Experience working with large data sets in Excel.
  • Exposure to management accounting, financial controls or operational finance.
  • Previous experience working with production, warehouse or supply chain teams.
