The main purpose of this role is to lead on the planning, coordination, development and implementation of Amnesty International's research, policy, advocacy, campaigns, vision and global strategy on economic, social and cultural rights, including migrant labour. You will manage the staff, budgets and work within the Economic and Social Justice team in order to deliver the work in line with the teams agreed strategy including on research, policy and campaigns; deliver on the diversification of the funding portfolio of the team and to manage donor relationships and reporting. You will act as the principal policy adviser in relation to Amnesty's work on economic, social and cultural rights, providing advice and guidance to IS senior leadership and staff and to sections and structures and ensuring the development and application of legal, policy and research guidelines for the movement to follow.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the planning, development and implementation of AI's strategy for the protection and promotion worldwide of economic, social and cultural rights, including migrant labour issues, and to ensure that AI takes an effective and coordinated approach on these issues.
- Manage the Economic and Social Justice team, ensuring planning, coordination and distribution of work within the team, setting priorities, agreeing work plans, budgets and schedules; supporting research in progress and approving final outputs; monitoring adherence to operating standards, including the agreed guidelines on self-servicing; establishing systems to ensure feedback, mutual support and accountability; and identifying training and development needs.
- Act as the movement's principal law and policy adviser on economic, social and cultural rights, including migrant labour issues, underpinning the quality assurance process with respect to major outputs; developing AI's policies and research, advocacy, and membership strategies on these issues and monitoring adherence by IS programs and the movement in order to ensure consistent and coordinated implementation at the international level, including in the context of the relevant AI campaigns.
Skills And Experience
- Strong track record of the provision of legal and policy advice with respect to economic, social and cultural rights.
- Strong track record of interdisciplinary work – knowledge of economics/social sciences/development desirable.
- Demonstrated significant experience of managing people and resources.
- Experience of fundraising from foundations and trusts.
