The Global Strategy and Governance programme plays a pivotal role in shaping Amnesty International's strategic direction, reinforcing governance systems and processes, and fostering organizational learning. Through inclusive planning, performance monitoring, and impact assessment, it ensures that the organization remains aligned with global human rights priorities. The department provides active support to the Global Assembly, International Board, and other governance bodies, helping to embed standards that uphold principled, values-driven governance throughout the Amnesty Movement.

Reporting to the Head of Governance, the post holder supports Amnesty International's global governance committees. The role is expected to provide specific coordination support to the International Nominations Committee (INC) but will also support other committees as required. The Governance Coordinator also provides flexible support across the Global Governance team, including records management, inbox monitoring, covering during periods of absence or peak workload, and support for the Global Assembly and other key governance events.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide proactive support to the Chair and members of Amnesty International governance committees, enabling the effective delivery of the Committee's mandate, objectives and work plan. Initial focus is on supporting the International Nominations Committee (INC).
  • Assist with the application of Amnesty International's governance framework, Statute and Regulations, identifying opportunities to improve policies, processes and ways of working.
  • Support the implementation of Committee decisions and make recommendations to address challenges or strengthen governance processes.
  • Coordinate the induction, development and succession planning of Committee members, including recruitment processes for co-opted members where required.
  • Monitor and support the delivery of governance committee annual work plan, ensuring alignment between key milestones, timelines and governance processes.
  • Arrange and service governance committee meetings, including preparation of agendas, papers, minutes, reports and action tracking.
  • Coordinate the administration of nominations and elections processes for vacancies on the International Board and elected statutory committees.

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Experience providing support to boards, committees, governing bodies or senior stakeholder groups, ideally within a membership-based, non-profit or international organization.
  • Experience coordinating complex governance, nominations, elections or decision-making processes involving multiple stakeholders and competing deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work under pressure.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build effective relationships and work confidently with elected leaders, senior stakeholders and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
  • Fluent speaking in either French and/or Spanish is highly desirable.
