The organisation aims to build public support for human rights, strengthen people-powered movements, and create lasting change. As Director of Campaigns and Communications, you will help define how Amnesty International UK meets the challenge of connecting evidence with emotion, inspiring action, and building movements for political and social change.

You will shape the organisation's public voice, influence its strategic direction, and lead work that reaches millions across the UK. Key objectives include:

  • Building broader public support for human rights
  • Growing and diversifying its movement
  • Reaching and engaging new generations of supporters
  • Increasing influence in public and political debate
  • Strengthening integration between campaigning, communications, activism, and movement building
  • Creating bold, creative, and audience-focused approaches to change

As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will contribute to the overall leadership of AIUK and play a central role in shaping organisational strategy and culture. You will lead a substantial directorate, ensuring alignment across campaigns, communications, media, policy, and research.

We are looking for an experienced and values-driven leader with the credibility, judgement, and vision to operate at executive level. Ideal candidates may currently be:

  • A Director of Campaigns, Communications, Public Engagement, or Advocacy
  • An Executive Director leading large-scale influencing or movement building functions
  • A senior sector leader responsible for public mobilisation, communications, campaigning, or political influence

You will possess significant leadership experience within a complex organisation, a track record of delivering ambitious strategies, and the ability to build organisational alignment around a clear strategic vision. A commitment to anti-racist practice, equity, and human rights is essential.

This role requires both conviction and humility, combining strategic clarity with empathy, collaboration, and courage. You will have the opportunity to shape the future direction of one of the world's most recognised human rights organisations and influence public and political debate on defining issues.

Amnesty International UK's commitment to Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Anti-Racism (IDEA) is at the core of our values. New colleagues receive:

  • 27 days leave annually (29 after five years), plus bank holidays and 3 wellbeing days
  • 2-5% employee pension contributions matched at 6-9%
  • 6 months full pay for family leave
  • Support for flexible working arrangements

To ensure equitable access to information, the charity will host a Q&A webinar instead of individual informal calls with the CEO and members of the SLT. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit questions in advance. The application deadline is 5pm, Monday 7th September 2026.
