AMLR Engineering is working in partnership with a leading manufacturer of aerospace components based in Derbyshire who have been established for 30 years. They are renowned for machining, assembly, inspection, fabrication and sheet metal manufacturing parts for precision aerospace companies. The position will be based at the site in Central Derby. Our client currently employs over 200 people at the site, and we are now looking to add contract support to the workforce to assist with the growth of the business. Due to the nature of the market our client supplies into, all candidates must be UK residents, and DBS checks (disclosure & barring service) may be required. Please also note at this time we do not offer visa sponsorship for overseas candidates.
Key Responsibilities for the Technical Quality Engineer role:
- Act as the internal technical quality focal point, supporting both central quality teams and site teams with complex technical queries.
- Provide specialist support for the deployment of APQP deliverables and help implement APQP training across group sites.
- Work closely with manufacturing engineering teams to improve planning, inspection processes, and share best practices.
- Support and maintain NADCAP and customer process approvals, including preparation for site audits.
- Conduct internal process audits to identify improvement opportunities.
- Support the implementation of corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide quality expertise for Transfer of Work (ToW) and New Product Introduction (NPI) projects.
- Support inspection teams with technical guidance including CMM strategies and GD&T interpretation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business growth, operational improvement, and quality initiatives.
Skills and experience required for the Technical Quality Engineer role:
- Proven experience in Quality Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering within a similar role.
- Strong experience implementing APQP deliverables.
- Working knowledge of aerospace and quality standards including: AS9100, ISO 9001.
- Strong ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering standards.
- Experience with sheet metal and machined component manufacturing, including surface treatments.
- Experience improving process planning, routing, and technical documentation.
- Experience working in highly regulated industries, ideally aerospace.
- Knowledge of inspection techniques, particularly CMM, is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with structured problem-solving methods such as: 8D, Ishikawa, 5 Why, DMAIC, DoE, Kepner-Tregoe.
- Experience working with ERP systems.
