Hours: Shift Pattern / Days = 06:00 - 18:00 / Nights = 18:00 - 06:00 / Breaks 1.75h daily, 30 min paid

AMLR Engineering is working in partnership with a leading manufacturer of aerospace components based in Derbyshire who have been established for 30 years. They are renowned for machining, assembly, inspection, fabrication and sheet metal manufacturing parts for precision aerospace companies. The position will be based at the site in Central Derby. Our client currently employs over 200 people at the site, and we are now looking to add contract support to the workforce to assist with the growth of the business.

Due to the nature of the market our client supplies into, all candidates must be UK residents, and DBS checks (disclosure & barring service) may be required. Please also note at this time we do not offer visa sponsorship for overseas candidates.

Purpose of Shift Supervisor role:

Being ‘hands on’ supporting the Machine Shop Manager in efficient running of the area, being the first point of contact and helping with communication throughout the production process to ensure that quality goods are delivered to our customers on time. Leading the team. Support, develop and promote improvement activities to products and manufacturing processes. To manage effective handover between shifts using the SQCDP framework.

Key responsibilities and duties of Shift Supervisor role:

  • To demonstrate the ability to give and receive constructive feedback and assist in facilitating solutions; turning problems into opportunities to support continuous improvement.
  • To consistently demonstrate a structured approach to planning operational requirements to meet agreed customer deadlines.
  • To demonstrate tenacity, when appropriate, in securing a customer deliverable.
  • Applies commercially based reasoning to influence decisions that affect both our ability to deliver to a customer ‘on time in full’ and to secure ongoing customer confidence on the occasions when things do not go to plan, despite everyone’s best efforts.
  • To consistently demonstrate a ‘can do’ motivated approach in exceeding customer expectation.
  • To manage activities 24/7 ensuring priorities are met.
  • To co-ordinate the team’s production activities in order to ensure that agreed targets are achieved and to escalate to manager any areas of concern which cannot be resolved locally within the area.
  • To lead and manage the team and their performance effectively, ensuring that all required roles are fulfilled and that there is flexibility of skill within the area.
  • To compile and maintain a training matrix (for both job skills and team based skills) and ensure that appropriate training is delivered in a fair and consistent manner.
  • To ensure that performance measures are compiled and displayed on area notice boards.
  • To be responsible for communication activities within the team, (ie team briefings, start of shift meetings, end of shift/handover) and for ensuring that the communication process is two-way, i.e. between team and management and vice versa.
  • To ensure effective handover/communication between shifts. To ensure a safe and secure workplace.
  • To provide accurate and detailed feedback to both Production Manager and the Operations Support team on items that may affect the relationship with external customer e.g. late delivery of parts/kits, supply of raw materials.
  • To identify and maintain ‘housekeeping’ standards.
  • To track parts through the production cycle to ensure delivery timescales can be achieved.
  • To control stock of both finished parts and raw materials to agreed levels.
  • To demonstrate efficiency and expertise in the use of existing production software programmes and Microsoft applications, completing ongoing updates as required, e.g. Paragon, Oracle, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • To interpret and communicate clearly, in writing and verbally the range of reports produced from the IT systems used now and in the future.

Quality: support the quality accreditations across the business to ensure the delivery of a ‘right first time’ performance.

Cost: support the continuous improvements in cost reduction activities across the company in order to deliver increased profitability and value for money to our customers and stakeholders.

Delivery: drive improvement in delivery performance to continually exceed customer expectations and targets.

People: support organisational capability and influence cultural change by embracing diversity, inclusion, wellbeing and community.
