The role… Reporting to the Head of Services, the successful candidate will become a part of the Networking team. You will be joining a team that designs, builds and implements world leading solutions and also provides support to our Service Operations teams, in a level 3 support capacity. This role is working 37.5 hours a week on a full time basis in our offices in Tewkesbury.
Typical Duties include:
- Working in collaboration with Project Delivery teams across Engineering Build Teams, Managed Services, Programme Delivery and Production teams supporting delivery outcomes for all stakeholders and customers.
- Configuring, deploying and maintaining network devices including a variety of switches, routers and firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet).
- Deploying and maintaining advanced routing solutions with protocols such as BGP and OSPF.
- Managing cloud networking in AWS including hybrid deployments, e.g. AWS Direct Connect.
- Applying security hardening and baselines to network appliances.
- Implementing and maintaining firewalls & VPN configurations.
- Analysing traffic patterns using industry standard tools to support fault finding, bandwidth optimisation and assist with capacity.
- Creating and maintaining network diagrams including both HLDs and LLDs.
- Applying patches and updates to network hardware and software to maintain security and performance.
- Deploying and maintaining air gapped networks.
- Ensuring security hardening best practices are followed and that these remain up to date in various environments.
- Designing, planning and deploying network infrastructure to support project delivery & internal IT teams.
What you'll need:
- Substantial previous experience as a Network Engineer – ideally 5+ years.
- Proven experience designing, implementing, and troubleshooting enterprise-level network infrastructures.
- Strong experience with Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) implementation, configuration, and troubleshooting in enterprise environments.
- Strong knowledge of networking protocols and concepts including TCP/IP, OSPF, BGP, EIGRP, VLANs, VPNs, QoS, and HSRP.
- Certified to CCNP level or above, or equivalent vendor specific certification.
- Ability to create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, and diagrams (high level and low level designs).
- Expertise in configuration and management of networking devices (Cisco) including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Experience with cloud networking technologies and architectures (AWS).
Desirable but not essential skills:
- Automating network configurations and deployments using infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools e.g. Ansible, Terraform, or Python scripts.
- Monitoring and logging network performance using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or ELK stack.
- Experience with developing and maintaining air gapped networks.
- Experience with Voice over IP (VoIP) technologies including SIP, RTP protocols, and implementation/management of Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE) or similar voice gateways.
