My client is a leading software business in the security space and is now looking to build their first UK software engineering team. They were founded around 10 years ago, have circa 500 employees globally, and are looking for an Engineering Manager to join their team. You will manage 6 other engineers all at a Senior level and should expect to be hands-on.

This is approximately 30% hands-on, 70% management. In terms of the hands-on element, you should be able to contribute to backend code, be the example setter, take up technical debts, and collaborate on PR reviews. You will make architectural decisions with the team as well as being responsible for scaling the team and day-to-day managerial tasks.

They pride themselves on having very strong engineering standards and hire the top 5% of engineers globally. They build an AI-powered identity verification and fraud prevention platform and have around 20 products in their product offering. They have raised over $600 million in funding since inception, currently valued at over $5 billion. Their tech stack is Golang, AWS, Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, and distributed systems, and you will be building out their core platform with a newly built team. They have over 3000 enterprise clients and work with some of the biggest companies globally.

They would like someone with the following experience:

  • You should have at least ten years’ experience in software engineering.
  • 2 years’ experience leading or mentoring engineers.
  • Need strong backend experience in Java, Python, or Go. If you don’t have Go experience, they are happy for you to learn.
  • Worked at a cutting-edge tech company – Think FAANG level companies or similar.
  • Exposure to Data Engineering and Batch Processing Systems is highly advantageous.

They are paying between £140,000 and £175,000 with up to a 15% bonus and RSUs available. The ideal candidate should be able to visit London max once a week but they would consider monthly visits for exceptional candidates.
