Job Description:
Amherst College invites applications for the position of Director of the Class and Access Resource Center. This full-time, year-round role starts at $71,689, commensurate with experience. Given Amherst\’s distinction as one of the most diverse liberal arts colleges in the country, the successful candidate will demonstrate how they contribute to and support a broadly diverse community.
Reporting to the Senior Director of Identity and Cultural Engagement, the Director oversees staffing, budget, daily operations, and programming of the Class & Access Resource Center (CARC). The role supports the mission of the Office of Identity and Cultural Resources and the Office of Student Affairs. The center is a key resource in building and supporting identity development and community engagement. The Director collaborates with various campus offices and partners to deliver educational, social, and cultural programming that centers and affirms the diverse communities served by the center.
The Director upholds the mission to provide education, support, and advocacy for first-generation, low-income, transfer, and military veteran students. They foster personal, social, and academic success through programs, resources, and services, and serve as an advising resource for college access initiatives and affinity groups. The role requires flexibility to work occasional nights and weekends and involves in-person work, including occasional late nights and weekends.
Internal-External Interaction/Communication:
The Director interacts with Student Affairs staff, office directors, the Dean of Students, and other stakeholders, handling complex operational communications and decision-making within established policies.
Summary of Duties and Responsibilities
Management, Operations, & Supervision:
- Manage daily operations of the Center.
- Hire, onboard, and supervise student and professional staff.
- Participate in strategic planning and assessment.
- Oversee budget and resource allocation.
- Lead communication efforts via website and social media.
Programs & Initiatives:
- Develop and lead educational programs and workshops.
- Collaborate on leadership and community-building initiatives.
- Coordinate programs supporting first-generation, low-income, transfer, and veteran students.
- Partner with campus offices to support student transitions and access.
- Implement assessment protocols for programs.
Collaboration:
- Serve as a resource across campus and Five College partners.
- Participate in committees and working groups.
- Support broader diversity and inclusion efforts.
Qualifications
Required:
- Master\’s Degree
- 3-5 years of related experience
- Experience working with diverse student populations, including BIPOC, first-generation, low-income, and non-traditional students
- Proven program development, advising, and student services experience
- Strong project management and leadership skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred:
- Master\’s in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Justice, Leadership, or related field
