Sitting within Amgueddfa Cymru’s Digital Group which comprises the organisations Digital, Data and Technology strands, Technical Services facilitate and lead on the provision of technical support across, our exhibitions, events, galleries, venues and back of house. Supporting museum colleagues and external partners to deliver a range of high quality, digital, and technical experiences for our visitors, audiences, and clients.
Main Purpose of job
As part of Amgueddfa Cymru’s Technical Services department, you’ll lead on the successful delivery of key technical capital projects delivering upgrades to our gallery and venue technical infrastructure, equipment and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Reporting to the Technical Services Manager, you’ll manage the delivery of new technical infrastructure projects across Amgueddfa Cymru.
- As member of a team of technical team leads within Technical Services you’ll work collaboratively to support and deliver the departments objectives.
- Line management of the Technical Project Support role.
- Deliver a suitable programme so that all projects can be practically achieved on time and within budget.
- Produce documentation and write tenders for the procurement of goods and services.
- Manage the project administration for each project, setting up online workspaces for the teams and organising all project documentation.
- Oversee the capital budget assigned for each project ensuring that the scope of each project remains in budget.
- Provide project updates and report to the Technical Service Manager and other stake holders on project progress
- Be Amgueddfa Cymru’s first point of contact on each project when dealing with suppliers, contractors and external stakeholders.
- Work with Technical Services colleagues to define project specifications and requirements
- Commercial responsibility: every member of staff has responsibility for the commercial success of Amgueddfa Cymru. Specifically for this role: By contributing to the upkeep of world class galleries and venues enabling further income generating opportunities via exhibitions and events.

- Are confident in working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
- Can work on your own initiative as well as a collaborative approach to team working and building networks
- Are focussed on the end user’s needs.
- A good knowledge of project management particularly relevant but not limited to technical services within heritage and culture settings
- Either a qualification and/or a good understanding, or both, in project management methods such as Agile and Prince 2.
- Relevant experience leading or managing projects, relevant to technical services within in heritage and culture settings
- Experience producing deliverable programmes of work alongside each other.
- Experience with writing project briefs and tender documents.
- Have the attitudes and behavior that are aligned with the Museum’s values (collaborative, equity, creativity, integrity and responsible).
Core Skills
- Excellent interpersonal and management skills with the ability to deal effectively and confidently at all levels across departments and with external parties.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues and external stakeholders from both technical and non-technical backgrounds.
- IT skills to support the planning and delivery of projects, including MS Office Suite, MS Teams & MS Project, (although experience with other project management tools that can be transferred over to MS platforms also welcomed.)
- Excellent organisational skills including demonstrable ability to work successfully on several projects at one time.
- A good understanding of the principles of equality and diversity in relation to Amgueddfa Cymru’s work and the ability to apply these in practice.
- The ability to communicate in Welsh would be desired or at least a willingness to learn.
- A degree or other further education, academic or vocational, in a relevant discipline or equivalent.
- A full driving licence is desired to support travel between Amgueddfa Cymru’s museums for work.
- A good understanding of the delivery of technical infrastructure projects within museums.
