In this vital role, the Senior Counsel in Amgen’s Employment Law Group is responsible for advising on employment issues across Amgen’s global footprint, with a focus on Europe. We are seeking an experienced employment lawyer to advise on employment and labour law matters across the ELMAC region (Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Canada), with a primary focus in Europe. This role will provide strategic and practical legal counsel to Human Resources, business leaders, and the Legal Department on a broad range of employment-related issues, including litigation.
The successful candidate will have deep expertise in European employment law, excellent writing and oral communication skills, be able to establish relationships of trust with HR and business partners, and be able to collaborate with colleagues in the Law Department.
Responsibilities- Advise HR and business leaders on significant and complex employment law matters across multiple European jurisdictions, with a primary focus on cross-border matters and employment issues supported by the Staff Relations team.
- Manage employment litigation, administrative claims, and disputes, including oversight of outside counsel.
- Provide legal guidance on employee relations issues, investigations, disciplinary actions, and terminations.
- Partner with regional HR and Staff Relations team to identify and mitigate employment-related legal risks in cross-country initiatives while supporting business objectives.
- Coordinate with local counsel on country-specific labour and employment law issues throughout Europe as needed.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the Law Department and other functions to deliver practical, business-focused legal solutions and act as a subject-matter expert and escalation point for complex, sensitive, novel or cross-border employment law matters.
You will join the Employment Law Team within Amgen’s Law Organization, a supportive and collaborative environment that partners closely with Law Department colleagues across Europe.

Qualifications and skills- Bachelor's degree or equivalent and qualified to practice in the UK and/or Ireland (admitted to bar or Law Society Roll of Solicitors)
- Significant experience in employment law practice, including in EU countries
- Experience with a multinational corporation or a globally recognised law firm
- Experience working with cross-functional teams
