Our client, an engineering & manufacturing company based between Bradford and Halifax, have an immediate requirement to recruit an experienced design engineer to design bespoke air ventilation systems and manage their team.
The Opportunity
As part of continued growth and expansion, as well as being awarded various significant contracts, an excellent opportunity has arisen for a design engineer to move on to the next step and manage the existing team of 6 design engineers. The role will involve the design and development of bespoke customer products and ensure that each project is managed from inception to delivery and install, where you will play a very hands-on role.
Key Requirements and Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership & Management: Plan, prioritise, and manage design workloads and resources to meet project deadlines. Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing design team through regular 1-to-1s and ongoing support. Foster a positive, motivated team culture focused on collaboration and continuous improvement. Support recruitment activities, including hiring engineers as required to meet business demands.
- Design & Technical Oversight: Chair and lead regular design review meetings to identify issues, manage risk, and develop effective solutions. Provide hands-on design support during peak workloads where required. Ensure all design outputs meet quality, safety, regulatory, and customer requirements.
- Communication & Stakeholder Engagement: Keep the design team informed of key developments, improvements, process changes, and new opportunities. Act as the primary point of contact between the shop floor and the design team, reducing unnecessary interruptions and protecting productivity. Maintain strong interdepartmental communication across engineering, production, and management teams. Provide regular updates to senior management on project status, team performance, and resourcing needs.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance processes, efficiency, and engagement. Encourage innovation, knowledge sharing, and collaborative problem-solving across the team.
Skills & Experience:
- Extensive experience in HVAC and/or fan systems engineering with strong product knowledge.
- Proven experience leading design teams within an engineering environment.
- Strong planning, organisational, and communication skills.
- Ability to balance technical involvement with people leadership and strategic oversight.
- Experience working closely with shop floor and cross-functional teams is highly desirable.
This is a permanent role where you will be expected to work regular office hours Monday to Friday (early finish on a Friday). Some flexibility is available with regards to start and finish times. In return, you can expect a salary of £40k - £45k dependent on previous experience and a benefits package commensurate with the position.
