Our client, a small to medium sized manufacturing business, has an immediate requirement to recruit a well-versed Maintenance Electrician to join their team.

Overview

The role involves providing hands-on support in maintaining, troubleshooting, and improving plant equipment, with a strong focus on electrical systems while supporting mechanical tasks as required. The successful candidate will play a key part in ensuring maximum uptime of critical electroplating lines, ancillary equipment, and supporting utilities, while maintaining compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventive maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on a wide range of electrical and electro-mechanical equipment including plating lines, rectifiers, pumps, motors, compressed air and control panels.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults, control wiring, drives, sensors, and instrumentation.
  • Support mechanical repairs such as pumps, pipework, and hydraulics as required.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained to achieve maximum efficiency and reliability, minimising downtime.
  • Work closely with production teams to identify and resolve issues quickly and effectively.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects and modifications to improve reliability, safety, and efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation in line with company procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental requirements, particularly regarding chemical handling and plating operations.
  • Liaise with external contractors and suppliers when required.
  • Participate in weekend work as required to support production requirements and minimise downtime.

Essential Skills & Experience

  • Time-served Electrical Engineer with 18th edition.
  • Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing/industrial environment (preferably electroplating, surface finishing, chemicals, or heavy process industry).
  • Strong knowledge of electrical fault finding and repair, including motors, drives, control circuits, and PLCs.
  • Good understanding of mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical and engineering drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic skills.
  • Awareness of health, safety, and environmental compliance within a manufacturing/chemical environment.

Desirable Skills

  • Able to showcase experience of working in an industrial environment.
  • PLC programming/modification experience.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, TPM, or continuous improvement initiatives.

In this role, you will be expected to work 07:45 - 16:15 Monday to Thursday and 7am - 1pm on a Friday. In return, you can expect a basic package of £40k - £45k dependent on previous experience.
