We are excited to offer a permanent Grounds Maintenance Operative in HMP Wakefield, 5 Love Lane, Wakefield WF2 9AG.

Salary: £26,141.95

Standard hours: 39 hours per week. Staff work on a rota basis 07:15 – 16:15, with a requirement to work 1 in 4 weekends. An additional allowance of 15% of basic salary is provided for weekend work.

What you will do:

  • General maintenance: grass cutting, hedge trimming, leaf and litter clearance, verge care, weed spraying, tree care, horticulture activities such as planting, pruning and seeding.
  • Operate light plant and power tools, in‑use equipment checks, erect and dismantle equipment.
  • Set out and maintain sports pitches, grass and tarmac, upkeep of artificial and synthetic pitches in recreational areas.
  • Painting sundry equipment.

What you will bring:

  • Comfortable working alongside prisoners.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety legislation.
  • Full driving licence.
  • Weed spraying certificate.
  • Qualified in the use of grounds maintenance machinery including chainsaw wind blown trees (CS 34), CS 30/CS 31 and chainsaw maintenance and cross cut.
  • Knowledge and experience of gardening, horticulture operations and grounds maintenance duties.
  • Experience in operating light plant and equipment and wheeled tractors.
