The Opportunity

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Practice Lead for Water & Flooding to join our Advisory Business within Amey Consulting on a permanent contract. The Advisory Consulting team are dynamic and forward thinking, dedicated in driving the shift towards a greener future. The role

As the Practice Lead for Water & Flooding in the Advisory business, you will be responsible for leading the development, growth, and day to day operation of a practice of capability, instilling a culture of high performance. Ensuring the optimum level of capacity and capability is in place to deliver both existing projects and anticipated pipeline. You will also be responsible for the professional development and people management of all practice resources, working collaboratively with peers and client delivery teams to deliver exceptional client solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Embedding best practice people management, engagement, and development.
  • Developing robust succession plans and ensuring clear career development paths are in place.
  • Ensuring everyone understands what is expected of them through the setting of robust objectives, and ensuring regular feedback is provided to manage performance.
  • Acting as a coach, mentor and role‑model to staff across the organisation.
  • Helping create a sense of community within the practices.
  • Creating an environment within which all staff have the opportunity to thrive, building trust and collaboration throughout the team and with our colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Resolving delivery challenges: supporting Delivery Directors and Heads of Discipline to address scope creep, resourcing gaps or performance issues.
  • Accountability for the economical utilisation of practice resources ensuring optimum level of skill and capability available on time to projects and bids.
  • Driving change programmes as required to ensure optimum efficiency/utilisation.
  • Liaising with Operations colleagues to clarify forward resource requirements supply and demand.
  • Embedding robust capability management, ensuring optimum level of skill and capability within resource pool.
  • Working in unison with Heads of Profession / Chief Engineers to create career pathways, capability matrices and certification targets.
  • Lead recruitment of resource into the Practice team.
  • Liaison with Business Director and Client Delivery Directors to understand resource requirements and provide expert input into shaping project & resourcing plans.
  • Identifying and engaging with key stakeholders to ensure robust resource management, ensuring the practice is able to respond to resource requirements from projects and bids as required including attracting new talent into the organisation.
  • Developing clear plans to address any skill shortages or capability gaps.
  • Ensuring a pipeline of available talent mitigating future resource constraints and evidencing long term workforce planning.
  • Working with Business Development colleagues to develop pipeline and associated resource requirements.
  • Provides input into Strategy and Business Development function on market trends and developments.
  • Actively input into bidding activity including development of win strategy and delivery of bid content.
