We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Inspector to join our NMC NE account in Perth. Our NMC NE account is working in partnership with Transport Scotland Southwest since August 2020, responsible for inspections, cyclical maintenance, asset management, scheme delivery as well as winter maintenance and incident response. The team are first on the scene to assist road users on the road network, delivering engineering design and operational delivery services for more than 600 kilometres of road and 1,650 structures, enabling reliable journey times and a high level of customer care for the people and businesses that use these roads every day.

By ensuring our roads and highways are well-maintained through all-weather seasons and traffic incidents, we aim to create well-functioning, safe spaces which minimise disruption, keep people moving and support thriving communities. The Highways Inspector plays an important part in the collection of data relating to safety and future improvements to safeguard the travelling public, client, and Amey. The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday. Work-life balance and flexibility are key for our success. You will be responsible for:

  • Carrying out inspections in accordance with the Well-Maintained Highways Code of General Practice
  • Data asset collection of highways inventory items and managing a GIS database
  • Ensuring contract compliance on data quality management issues
  • Developing timely and accurate reports and assisting with project administration as required
  • Complying with the relevant health and safety legislation
  • Assisting with the establishment and implementation of a programme of inspections and investigations

We want to hear from you if you are:

  • Self-motivated to be able to work alone and prioritise your workload under pressure
  • An excellent communicator to manage stakeholders at all levels
  • Confident in your good all-round project management knowledge
  • Confident in the use of IT packages such as MS Office
  • Holder of a full UK Driving Licence

Ideally, you will be qualified in relevant Inspectors courses, including defect identification, monitoring, and recording and Personal Highway Safety (PHS) certified. It is preferable that you would have experience in the use of a GIS based system such as Q-GIS, Arc-GIS or something similar. In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have qualifications specifically defined by clients including Professional Membership were deemed appropriate to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
