We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Highways Maintenance Operative to join our Area 7 account in Nottingham, based from our Sandiacre depot (NG10 5ND). At Amey, we’re supporting National Highways to deliver safe, reliable journeys across the East Midlands. Our teams maintain and improve over 700 kilometres of motorway and trunk roads, helping millions of road users travel safely every day. This is a hands‑on role where no two days are the same. You’ll work as part of a collaborative team carrying out essential highways maintenance and responding to incidents across the network.
The standard hours of work are 45 hours per week, Monday to Friday, working rotating day and night shifts:
- Days: 7am – 3pm
- Nights: 7pm – 5am
You will be responsible for:
- Delivering highway maintenance works safely and to a high standard
- Carrying out carriageway and footway patching, kerbing and drainage works
- Installing, repairing and maintaining road signs and safety barriers
- Supporting winter maintenance and emergency incident response activities
- Operating vehicles and plant machinery, including completing daily vehicle checks
- Setting up, maintaining and removing traffic management and pedestrian management systems
- Completing reactive maintenance tasks including litter picking and sign cleaning
- Ensuring all works are completed in line with health and safety procedures
- Completing records, inspections and required documentation accurately

- A full UK driving licence
- HGV licence
- Experience working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Good understanding of health and safety practices
- Experience within highways maintenance or a similar operational environment
