We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Structural / Bridge Engineer to join our Consulting Structures team in Newcastle. Located in the heart of Newcastle, our new office at St James's place provides a modern, flexible workspace designed for collaboration and innovation. You will join a vibrant team of engineers, project managers, data analysts, commercial experts, safety specialists and operatives working together on some of the most exciting and challenging engineering projects in the region and nationally.
The role involves providing effective support and assistance to the Practice Lead on a variety of bridges and civil structures schemes, whilst taking the lead on projects and mentoring engineers and technicians.
Responsibilities include:
- Leading a team, producing technically sound engineering solutions.
- Taking ownership and leading bridges and civil structures projects from start to finish, including:
- Structural assessments
- Principal Inspections / Special Inspections
- Feasibility and other technical reports
- Preparation and checking of designs, calculations, drawings and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the criteria of quality, cost and programme.
- Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
- Contributing to the professional development of junior staff.
- Liaising with Client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries.
- Managing a small, locally based single discipline technical team and taking responsibility for delivery of their workload.
- Contributing to the preparation of bids and general work winning function.
- Driving effective Health and Safety practices within the team.
We want to hear from you if you have:
- Experience and expertise in bridges and/or civil structures, gained in an Engineer role or equivalent.
- Sound understanding of structural engineering principles.
- Ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and Client’s requirements.
- Ownership for the preparation and checking of deliverables.
- Knowledge of relevant software and similar analytical tools (e.g. Midas, LUSAS, Autodesk Structural Bridge Design).
- Experience in effectively managing HS&W risks.
- Collaborative, proactive approach to problem solving with experience in a multi-disciplinary team.
- Incorporated/Chartered status or an equivalent professional licence.
- Bachelors or Masters degree in a relevant subject or equivalent further learning.
