We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Senior Lighting/Electrical Design Engineer to join our Consulting Lighting, Power and Technology team in Newcastle. The standard hours of work are 40 hours per week, but we offer a range of flexible working practices, including hybrid, part-time and flexible working patterns. Amey Consulting is a design partner supporting National Highways in delivering the largest and most comprehensive renewals programme to date. The organisation also provides design resources for local authority LED upgrade programmes and ongoing design work for various local authorities.
What you will be doing
- Developing effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief.
- Undertake a wide range of design work on all aspects of the functions design and maintenance.
- Implement effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements.
- Progress projects through preliminary and detailed design with emphasis on client requirements, and ensure innovation and best practice is highlighted and adopted where practicable.
- Drive effective health and safety practices within your team.
- Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM regulations.
- Supervise, mentor and develop team members.
- Assist with contract preparation together with project planning and programming.
- Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees.
- Support the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts.
- Effective management and response of project related correspondence.
- Checks to ensure compliance with the integrated management system and assist in development.
- Prepare technical reports (e.g. Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports).
- Development of engineering solutions and presentation of engineering options.
- Liaise with the Client and our Community partners to ensure solutions that are developed are suitable for buildability and maintainability.
- Keep up to date with your own personal development to ensure the natural growth of the team and progression with your chosen professional institution.
We want to hear from you if you have:
- Made progress towards completion of a formal professional training programme with an appropriate professional body.
- Demonstrated experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Graduate Engineer role or equivalent.
- Able to produce technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working under supervision.
- Experience in following procedures associated with health, safety and welfare.
- Able to comply with technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment.
