The Opportunity

Amey Engineering teams improve the environment and create sustainable flooding solutions across the UK, by working in partnership with a range of clients, providing consultancy design services for Local Authorities, Strategic and Local transport providers and organisations delivering National Infrastructure. The role

Due to the increased workload, we are seeking to recruit a Principal Scour Management Engineer / Team Leader.The successful candidate will undertake and oversee the production of Scour Risk Management plans, scour assessments, feasibility studies and design, leading a dedicated scour team. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within the Flooding and Water Management team in Scotland in our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices, providing effective support and assistance to Engineers and team leaders on a variety of scour-related schemes .

We are working on a range of scour management projects for Transport Scotland, Regional Authorities in Scotland, Wales, South-West and Midlands areas, National Highways and Network Rail, and looking to expand further in these areas. We are also confirmed as the lead engineering consultant working with the NI Department for Infrastructure (DFI) on their Water and Departmental Delivery contract for the next five years, as well as NI Transport Asset Management and Translink contracts.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief
  • Undertake a wide range of scour-related work on all aspects of the functions design and maintenance .
  • Implement effective, value for money and innovative solutions to meet technical and project requirements .
  • Progress projects through preliminary and detailed design with emphasis on client requirements and innovation .
  • Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations .
  • Supervise, mentor and developteam membersfromseniorengineers,through to graduate engineers and technicians .
  • Assist with contract preparation together with project planning and programming .
  • Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets, inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees .
  • Support the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts.
  • Inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees .
  • Effective management and response of project-related correspondence .
  • Checks to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management Systemand assist in the development .
  • Prepare and check feasibi lity studies, appraisal/assessment reports and other written documents .
  • Development of engineering solutions and presenting engineeringoptions .
  • Complete performance appraisals with direct reports and provide learning and development opportunities wherepossible .

What you will bring to us:

  • Can demonstrate high-level experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent.
  • Can demonstrate an ability to produce or oversee the production of technically

sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client

requirements.

  • Have extensive experience in Scour Risk Management.
  • Have experience in managing project-related tasks associated with health, safety and

welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.

  • Are experienced in the application of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment.
  • Have a Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject.
  • Have Chartered status held with an appropriate professional body.
  • Know technical governance procedures and how they are applied within a

consulting engineering environment.

  • Are an accredited training manager with a relevant professional institution, e.g. Supervising Civil Engineer for the Institution of Civil Engineers.
  • Are capable of acting as lead or engineering day-to-day main contact for a

a project where required under the terms of the commission.
