The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Assistant Project Manager to join our Consulting Highways team in Manchester. Amey and Trafford Council are working in partnership to deliver environmental and infrastructure services for Trafford. The One Trafford Partnership maintains and improves nearly 800 km of roads, 17,000 km of footways, 150 structures, 30,000 street columns and illuminated signs and 37 parks, in addition to collecting waste from 97,000 households. Innovative, new technology will be introduced across the services to deliver a more efficient approach for the Council and the residents of Trafford.
The Trafford Highways Consulting account provides the local highway authority function on behalf of Trafford Council. It comprises approximately 40 engineers, technicians and support staff and is organised into four teams dealing with Traffic, Development Control & Drainage, Highway Maintenance and Highway Structures.
The role
As an Assistant Project Manager you will provide effective support and assistance to the Delivery Manager in the production and maintenance of technically sound project management deliverables, for Amey Consulting commissions, on the One Trafford Partnership account. Responsibilities include:
- To work in a team, assisting in the production and maintenance of technically sound project management solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements.
- Assist with the delivery of weekly project management reports associated with financial, resource or time related reporting.
- Support the Delivery Management Team with periodic meetings with Project Managers to ensure programme delivery and compliance is embedded in account.
- Support and develop programmes (resource and cost associated) with service delivery on account.
- Support and maintain the Delivery Management Team in ensuring the Integrated Account Plan on the Trafford account is up to date and relevant in accordance with governance needs.
- Support Delivery Management Team on cost/fee governance assurance on the account but will have no responsibility for the financial performance of the project.
- Be part of the internal team across the wider One Trafford Partnership (OTP) team, ensuring Consulting are represented at delivery meetings.
- The individual will form a relationship with representatives of the professional institution to which they have become aligned and ensure development of self-career.
- General office duties associated with the smooth running of a consulting engineering business.
What you will bring to us:
- Bachelors or Masters degree in an appropriate subject.
- Associate membership of the Association for Project Management and/or Association for Project Management Project Fundamentals Qualification (PFQ) or equivalent is desirable.
- Understanding of project management theory and principles, gained through practical application with developing ability to apply in practice.
- Knowledge and understanding of project management and specification processes.
- Awareness of commercial issues.
- Basic understanding of Health, Safety and Welfare, including specific regulations.
- Ability to produce reports to a good standard.
- Basic understanding of the different interfaces on projects.
- Experience of a local authority environment working practices and protocols.
