Amey have been confirmed as the lead engineering consultant working with the NI Department for Infrastructure (DFI) on their Water and Departmental Delivery contract for the next five years, as well as NI Transport Asset Management and Translink contracts. We are also working on a range of flood management projects for Regional Authorities in Wales, South-West and Midlands areas, National Highways and National Rail, and looking to expand further in these areas.
The successful candidate will undertake and oversee the production of Flood Management design, leading a dedicated flood management design engineering team. This role can be based from either our Belfast or Cardiff locations where you will work collaboratively within the Flooding and Water Management team, providing effective support and assistance to the senior engineers and team leaders on a variety of flood schemes.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing effective concept design solutions that are consistent with the project brief
- Undertaking a wide range of design work on all aspects of the functions design and maintenance
- Implementing effective, value for money and innovative design solutions to meet technical and project requirements
- Progressing projects through preliminary and detailed design with emphasis on client requirements and innovation
- Ensuring compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM Regulations
- Supervising, mentoring and developing team members from senior engineers, through to graduate engineers and technicians
- Assisting with contract preparation together with project planning and programming
- Project administration reporting to the Project Manager including monitoring programme delivery, resources and budgets
- Inspection work, feasibility studies, cost estimating for works and fees
- Supporting the preparation of bids and delivery of services on other contracts
- Effective management and response of project-related correspondence
- Undertaking site supervision duties of contractors as and when required
- Checking to ensure compliance with the Integrated Management System and assist in the development
- Preparing and checking feasibility studies, appraisal/assessment reports and other written documents
- Development of engineering solutions and present engineering options
- Completing performance appraisals with direct reports and provide learning and development opportunities where possible
Qualifications:
- Demonstrable high-level experience and expertise within the relevant technical field, probably gained in a Senior Engineer role or equivalent
- An ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
- Experience in managing project-related tasks associated with health, safety and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
- Experienced in the application of technical governance procedures within a consulting engineering environment
- Bachelors or Master’s degree in an appropriate subject
- Chartered Engineer status held with an appropriate professional body, coupled with post chartership and post graduate experience in flood risk management based civil engineering projects
- Knowledge of technical governance procedures and how they are applied within a consulting engineering environment
- Are an accredited training manager with a relevant professional institution, e.g. Supervising Civil Engineer for the Institution of Civil Engineers
- Capability of acting as engineering lead or engineering day-to-day main contact for a project where required under the terms of the commission
