The Opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Ecologist to join our Energy Transition & Sustainability (ET&S) team. With shared office space in Birmingham, Sheffield, and Manchester, we welcome applications from across these areas.
The Role
Our Ecologists play an important role within the ET&S team and alongside our clients. As an Ecologist, you will support and assist your Senior Ecologist on various ecological schemes, take the lead on projects, and mentor junior Ecologists. The role will also involve providing ecological support to regional and national projects for a wide range of public sector clients (Amey currently works with clients in highways, rail, local authorities, central government, aviation, and waste sectors).
Responsibilities include:
- Producing technically sound deliverables for ecological commissions as part of a team
- Preparing and checking documentation to meet quality, cost, and schedule criteria
- Liaising with clients and suppliers, attending progress meetings, and responding to queries
- Managing a small, locally based single-discipline technical team and ensuring workload delivery
- Contributing to bid preparation and business development
- Promoting effective health and safety practices within the team
What you will bring to us:
- Experience and expertise in ecology, gained in a similar role or equivalent
- Specialist knowledge in protected species surveys, with at least one European protected species survey license; bat license is highly advantageous
- Experience with EPS mitigation license applications and holding or working towards protected species licenses (notable species: bats & dormice)
- Experience in invasive species survey and management
- Comprehensive knowledge of ecological processes and survey methodologies
- Ability to produce technically sound ecological solutions complying with relevant standards and legislation
- Ability to apply ecological management principles effectively
- Experience with health, safety, and welfare project tasks, including Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
- Good understanding of risk assessment and hazard management on projects
- A degree in Ecology, Zoology, Botany, Biology, or Environmental Science, or equivalent
- Full membership of CIEEM or equivalent
