We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for an Infrastructure Technician/Engineer to join one of Amey's most successful and high-profile contracts, delivering secure IT services to a major UK Central Government department in Whitehall, London. You will play a key role in supporting and enhancing a complex physical network and Microsoft Windows environment that underpins critical government services. Working alongside our Senior Infrastructure Engineer and Senior IT Technician, you will help maintain a secure, resilient and high-performing IT estate while contributing to innovative technology improvements that deliver real operational value. What You Will Do
- Manage and support critical IT infrastructure including servers, networks, storage platforms and virtualisation technologies.
- Monitor, maintain and optimise systems and cloud services to ensure maximum availability and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex infrastructure incidents, working collaboratively with internal teams and third-party suppliers.
- Deliver infrastructure projects, including network improvements, technology upgrades and cloud-based solutions.
- Contribute to infrastructure strategy, disaster recovery planning and the continuous improvement of operational processes.
- Support security compliance by implementing controls, conducting risk assessments and maintaining robust security standards.
What You Will Bring
- Strong technical knowledge of LAN, WAN and TCP/IP networking environments.
- Experience supporting Microsoft technologies including Active Directory, Group Policy, Hyper‑V, Microsoft 365, Azure and Windows Server 2019+.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server maintenance and mainstream backup solutions.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
- Proactive, collaborative and adaptable approach with a passion for continuous improvement and innovation.
- Ability to support 2nd and 3rd line infrastructure incidents within a secure operational environment.
Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline.
- Practical experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure and security best practices.
- Experience maintaining and upgrading complex network and server environments.
- Master's degree in a relevant discipline.
- Relevant Microsoft, networking, cloud or infrastructure certifications.
- Experience within highly regulated or secure environments.
