We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent Section Engineer to join our Special Bridge Inspection and Maintenance (SBIM) team working on the Severn Bridge. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits. Collaborating closely with National Highways, Amey delivers specialist inspection, maintenance and renewal works across some of the UK’s most complex and critical bridge assets. The Severn Bridge is a major cable-supported structure requiring specialist engineering knowledge, robust planning and a strong focus on safety, quality and compliance.
The Section Engineer plays a key role in supporting delivery of maintenance and capital schemes, ensuring works are planned, coordinated and delivered in line with programme, standards and contractual requirements.
What You’ll Do:
- Support delivery of bridge maintenance, renewals and capital schemes from scoping through to handover
- Take ownership of defined work packages, ensuring delivery to programme, quality and safety requirements
- Provide site engineering support, ensuring works are carried out safely and to specification
- Support scope development, site surveys, defect verification and constructability input
- Coordinate design development and technical queries in line with standards and specifications
- Plan and coordinate access requirements including scaffold, MEWP and rope access
- Support traffic management and possession planning where required
- Produce and maintain accurate programme inputs and progress reporting
- Support preparation and review of RAMS, permits and briefings in line with CDM requirements
- Deliver quality assurance including ITPs, inspections, and close-out of non-conformances
- Coordinate specialist subcontractors and manage operational interfaces
- Maintain accurate site records including diaries, photographs, test results and handover information
- Monitor progress against KPIs and support reporting to the Client
- Promote safe delivery and continuous improvement across all activities

What You’ll Bring:
Qualifications
- HNC/HND/BEng (or equivalent experience) in Civil Engineering or related discipline
- CSCS (or equivalent)
- Working towards IEng/CEng (desirable)
Skills
- Strong understanding of bridge/structures inspection and maintenance principles
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications and technical standards
- Strong planning and coordination capability
- Good stakeholder communication skills
- Competent IT skills (MS Office and contract systems)
Experience
- Experience working on bridge or highway structures maintenance/renewals
- Experience on large or cable-supported structures (highly desirable)
- Experience supporting capital schemes and site delivery
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and working to programme/KPIs
- Experience maintaining accurate inspection and asset records
