Amey has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Environmental Consultant to join the team. This position will be to act as a team leader, providing and overseeing the production of technically sound deliverables for environmental commissions such as in the preparation and checking of reports, designs, calculations and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme. To manage the actions of a medium sized, locally based single discipline technical team, including the people manager role when required by the business.
What we need from you:
- To lead a team, producing technically sound deliverables for environmental commissions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements, working unsupervised and supervising more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks.
- The preparation and checking of reports, designs, calculations and documentation as part of the production of scheme deliverables that satisfy the overarching criteria of quality, cost and programme.
- Overseeing the actions of more junior members of staff undertaking similar tasks and taking responsibility for their actions.
- Responsibility for the commercial success of the projects within their portfolio, controlling budgets and managing the costs associated with the production of deliverables.
- Liaising with client and supplier representatives at peer level, attending progress meetings, responding to queries etc.
- Significantly contributing to the preparation of bids and the general work winning function.
- Working on site, either on a visiting basis or in a full time but temporary role and including out of hours working.
- Assuming the role of people manager when required by the business.
Qualifications:
- Professional competency to Chartered Environmentalist standard as defined by the professional institution to which the individual is aligned. Chartered status may be essential on particular contracts.
Skills:
- Applies environmental management theory and principles to complex or ambiguous situations, where concepts need to be adapted to reach the correct outcome.
- Knowledge, understanding and experience of design and specification process with ability to advise others (Design Team Leader for appropriate projects). Can check deliverables to a high standard.
- Highly experienced with relevant software and/or similar analytical tools. Good ability to check work produced by others.
- Has excellent knowledge of suppliers and types of services they provide, supported by having contacts within the supply chain.
- Very good oral communicator who is able to present arguments and ideas well. Delivers training workshops or presents proposals orally to clients.
- Has a very good understanding of CDM and risk assessment. Substantially experienced in the management and communication of hazards and risks on projects and ensures appropriate risk mitigation and transference has been applied. Is capable of acting as Principal Designer for appropriate projects.
- Demonstrates a good ability to resolve possible interface clashes. Assists with the management of interfaces for own discipline. Ensures own deliverables align with those produced by other disciplines.
- Supervisory and people manager skills. Capable of managing a medium sized, locally based single discipline technical team, including the people manager role.
